I don't make my power at high RPM's due to my setup, but in an auto-x riding out a gear till redline so that you don't have to upshift and then downshift again right after the corner is often benifitial.

My new head includes Crower springs and titanium retainers, HKS 264 cams, sodium filled exhaust valves and black nitride coated swirl polished intake valves.

I'm about to send my ECU out to have DSM link thrown in, and I'm wondering what I can safely set my rev limiter at (as a default).

Do you still have the stock tranny?

Then it doesn't matter what you can rev the engine to, you can't shift easily over 7000 RPMs anyway...

I've got basically the same head setup as you with the Crower Springs and retainers and stainless valves and HKS cams. My valves float at 9k rpm. Kinda disappointing that all that lightweight and high tension spring BS can't even get me 1500 rpm's higher than the stock rev limit. My new rev limit is 8250 rpms.

Were you still making power all the way to 9K?

i have crower valves/springs/ retainers on 1g head with 264/272 cams and i can hold it over 8000 AND shift with no problems so far. i never do it tho, no power up top

oh bejesus not another one of these threads. :barf: wait till you get the link and watch g/rev thatll tell you exactly when you start pooping out of power and thus where you should 'rev' too :p

If you guys would read the original post, he wasn't interested in when he makes power.. He was interested in being able to keep it in gear while auto-xing to already be there with no work on the clutch/shifting out of turns...

I'm running the crower valve train and 272 cams, and have no problems at 9500. Also, my stock rebuilt tranny shifts fine at 8500. That's about the limit of them.. 8000 would be a good shift point on a stock tranny.. sometimes at 8500 it wont shift.

First off, no. I've got a fully built 20k mile TRE race tranny with double-synchro 1st-4th gears. I can shift at 9grand if I wanted to.:|

Secondly, this isn't for drag racing. Just because I would be taking the engine to 8 grand doesn't mean I would have to shift it quickly into the next gear. I would be reving that high so that I could get an extra half a second of acceleration in the gear and the added engine braking associated with it for the corner instead of shifting to the next gear for a tenth of a second and then downshifting again immediately afterwards.

Read the content of the thread, not just the title. I'm not asking when I should shift, I'm asking when I CAN shift. World of difference.

Unless you have a large turbo you wont see much advantage for reving over 8500. I would say around there not much more tho (why take the chance) shit happens. A little side mark, too many Dsms forget about autocross, we already dominate the drag strip we need to see some more brothers running around the track. I'm tired of getting beat by 120hp miatas. P.S good luck autocrossing man :thumb:

I take it you have a stock bottom end?? BS eliminated?? If not, then I would say, stay under 8000. IF you have a good solid bottom end and you are tuned to rev that high with DSMLink.... why not go to 9K. ROFL Just make sure you have fuel, no knock, etc. up that high, cause SHizT can break easy at that rpm....
