Turbo questions that I'll be flamed for

I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but my curiosity needs to be quenched.

The more and more I think about it, the more it seems the Evo 6.5 RS TME seems like the perfect turbo for my goals. Before I go any further, I do realize that the Evo 4 and up is flipped around. I also realize that due to the twinscroll housing, and its flange, it wouldn't bolt up to a 2G manifold.

What would need to be done to mate this turbo up to our 4G63? Obviously I would need a new exhaust manifold, would an Evo 4-8 manifold bolt up? I would also need a custom downpipe, obviously. Can anyone think of any other problems.

I realize this is probably a pretty expensive proposition, and this is more of a curiosity thing than something I will probably attempt. Curiosity is killing me, though.

Why don't you just buy a similar or much better turbo for cheaper then go through all that work and money?

If this turbo was off a Ford Escort, would you want it as badly? Are you doing this because its off an "evo" and it's "jdm"? If you're doing it for bragging rights, cool, otherwise I don't understand.

EVO 6.5 RS TME Please break this down for someone who does not understand. There is a guy on Buschur's site with an EVO VIII exhaust manifold wanting to put an EVO VIII turbo on his DSM. Is this your itch that needs scratching? mark

I don't care that it's off of an evo. It could say it was off of a Pinto, and I would like it. It's a very efficient turbo. It has a 10.5cm2 housing, which gives it a much higher top-end potential than an evo3 16g. The turbine wheel/shaft are titanium, whose lighter weight give it a much faster spool time, which counterbalances the larger housing.

The problem is, for what I'm looking for, this is really the best turbo for the job. An e3b16g doesn't have the top end I'm looking for. A 20g has much more lag than I'm looking for. A t3/t4 setup would cost me just as much, if not more, and still have more lag than I want. The closest thing out there is the fp3052, which is quite a bit more expensive, and a bit of overkill since it's capable of far more than I would ever ask from a turbo.

Evo 6.5 RS Tommy Makinen Edition.

It's basically a 16G with a 10.5cm twinscroll housing, but with a much lighter turbine wheel and shaft so it will spool faster. It will efficiently run much higher levels of boost than an e3b16g.

Thanks for the description, titanium weel and shaft? The often Hahn super 16G has a 10cm turbine housing and I have heard from guys running it that they like it. But, hey give the fellow a chance and any pertinent info, afterall the world was flat and Columbus said it was round. Someone had to back him. the 50 trims spool quick and Dejontool has a good price, best I've seen if you need to fall back onto something. i came over from the starquest club and a lot of imagination and fabrication is going on there because they need it. DSM's are the small block chevy for your generation and that's fine but making something work or go that isn't supposed to is cool to. Interesting post. Mark

Christ that's huge housing. It's just like that rediculous Hahn "super" series. Expect extra lag and no difference up top.

This isn't some small shop hybrid of a 16G with a giant housing. This is a purpose-built Mitsubishi turbo, which has a compressor map that more closely resembles a 20G than a 16G, and has a much lighter rotating assembly to prevent slow spool.

The split-tang turbine also helps with the spool. there is a starquestclub member running a garrett t-60-1 on his 2.6 with the split-tang. mark
