Gainesville,
I'm so close to getting my 6 bolt running but it just won't start.

Did the rewire for the CAS using the stock 7 bolt connectors. so those connections are all good.

I installed the CAS when the crank marker pointed at TDC and the cam gears were lined up. I made sure the CAS was lined up with both notches before putting it on too.

The motor cranks over so the starter works.

I get fuel since i can smell it and if i disconnect the fuel line from the rail fuel spills out. Also my fuel pump is running because i can hear it.

The ignition coil is good and so are my wires - i used a spark tester and all 4 wires carried a nice healthy spark from each coil plug.

Any thoughts? I would really like to get my beast on the road!

Edit - moderators - sorry i didn't put this in problem diagnosis where it belongs.

i put it at what i though was stock out of my manual for the 7 bolt firing order. then switched it based on the RRE instructions. i could have it totally backwards though since it's hard to understand just reading. one guy told me it's 1432? i'm so confused right now. i will try his way and yours when i get over to the car later in the week. i'll update this thread with my results.

edit - does anybody know how to test a CAS to see if it is good or not? the donor engine was out of a running car.

since 1 and 4 are on the same coilpack and 2 and 3 are on the same pack you can switch 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 and it won't matter. so .. 4123 is the same as 1432 ... 2314 is the same as 3241. Try running either 2314 or 2341 or 3214 or 3241 and so if that takes care of it ... its all the same thing. As far as testing the CAS ... in the service manual I believe there was a procedure where you just test it with a voltmeter but I wouldn't be too helpful since I have never actually tested one. If it came off a running car then it 99% sure still works ... you sure the wiring is done right? Chances are you just got the wrong firing order.

the reason I'm pushing the firing order check is because I somehow swapped my coilpacks during my buildup as well. I cranked it a ton of times and it wouldn't start. The next morning I swapped the order and it started right away. Something that dumb can cause the most frustrating problems ever!!!

i did the wiring based on RRE's writeup. since i used the stock plugs all i had to do was crimp the ends into the spades that fit on the CAS pins. i'll double check that again though.

Ok I just started mine on the weekend. Cas wired as per RRE and also swapped injector wiring order and the plug order is the same as the service manual with the exception that I changed the wires in the coil harness you know the triangular plug with the 3 wires there are 2 with blue tracers. Swap those leave the other red one and then leave the plug order as it would be stock. Mine fired after about 2 cranks.

Alright I figured it out and there were several things i did:

I swapped back to my 2G coil pack and transistor pack. Put the plug wires back to stock, then swapped them per RRE.

I also made sure the BISS was adjusted - found out that it was all the way in hence no idle.

After doing these things i tried the car and guess what - it started right up. Man i'm so excited about this and can't wait to take it out for a test drive!
