:thumb: ok i have a gst with a good amount of hp so traction is a little bit of an issue. i'm making 257hp and 227tq and i just installed a FMIC so not sure now what i am that was at 15psi
my question is to those that have it is it worth the moeny to be able to change boost levels in diff gear and or rpms does this really do as good as i can imajine it to do??

Let me know too. I think the greddy looks decent too with the hi and low. I heard the apexi is can be a pain to setup.

No worries here. My boy Kelvin has a 650 horsepower gsx and he did all his own work. And he will be doing all of mine. LOL. Take it easy. I just enjoy the finished product. Im lazy. :thumb:

i think its worth it espescially for FWD. Having a certain PSI for each gear is great. You can set it up where 1st gear doesnt spin at WOT, so you dont have to feather the throttle in first and second :thumb:

Well I have my boost source hooked right up to the wastegate and I still spin around 5000rpms in first so I doubt the apexi will help much. I'm still on the T-25 and the boost is 13-14 psi depending on rpm. I need to run like 12 psi in first orelse get some new tires and tweek the suspension.

My AVC-R just doesnt feel like working right now. I had set it to 1.4bar, and it had just learned the duty. Now regardless of what I set it to, it boosts 24psi. It still reads boost fine, just doesnt change it. All wiring and vaccuum lines are hooked up

Dude, what turbo are you running to try to run 1.4 bar?

back more to the point yes, an EBC is well worth it for us FWD guys.

I have a 97 gsx with a manual boost controller. i'm buying my firends AVC-R at the end of the month for really cheap. Would it be worth it for me to use it? or would I be better off selling it and spending the money on something else?

Try calling the guys at Apexi. They always seem to be real helpful.

Not tryin to steal the thread jus branching off it a lil bit. Is a dual stage boost controller such as the turbo xs (med/hi) as beneficial or close to as beneficial as the AVCR? Im referring to use on a FWD 5-speed. :talon: :thumb:

I just installed my avc-r and i like it allot it was easy to set up and seems to be easy to tune so far. :talon:

no a 2 stage is not as good becuase u will still get boost spike an electronic will take care of that thats the main reason i want to AVC-R and becasue i need to run lower boost in 1st and second i'm running 15 psi but spikes to 18 then settles to 15

:dsm: We had a local shop install the AVC-R but it seems they were not sure how to use it to set boost levels by gear. Can anyone help?

I have the turbo smart unit I got from ETD used for I think around 100 bucks it works perfect. Its nice if you need that extra bit to just flip a switch and have high boost or in your case with traction it would be a nice addition. My turbo smart unit was cheap and holds boost perfectly.

For sure get the ebc. I have a greddy probec-B and my friend with a 300ZX tt has the apex one and they are both SO much better than manual boost controllers. They are more responsive and they allow you to tune for much better boost control than just some ball valve. Us AWD drive guys won't benifit from the gear specific boost controlling like the FWD guys though. But long story short, definately buy the ebc from your friend you will like it much more than your mbc...once you get the hang of setting it up.

Hey sorry to bring this back from the dead but it seems alot of people here have the avc-r installed. Im installing mine real soon, and wondering how everyone got the wiring harness through the firewall?" Let me know, thanks!

EDIT: also... with the "splitting caps" for attaching wires to the ECU, I need to strip the plastic cover off where I connect the wires right??

invest in tires
I launch in high boost (18psi) and pull low 2.1 60s all day long on street tires

*cough* Quaife LSD *cough* Prothanse mounts *cough* tires just a step below a dedicated track tire *cough* :p You've done more than just invest in some decent tires to get those FWD 60s ;)

My brother runs the AVC-R in his WRX and according to him, its a love hate relationship. Loves the options but hates it reseting and choppy boosting. I'm still running a cheesy MBC but love its consistancy. :D
