I want to rebuild my 7bolt. I talked to my friend and he says most of his friends that have rebuild, or built up then rebuilt their 7bolts have encountered crankwalk.

I have no signs of crankwalk as of yet, but I've got 141k on the clock and a rebuild is due.

HOWEVER, I don't want to rebuild the motor IF there's a increased possiblity of crankwalk. It would be smarter for me to swap a 6bolt in if that were the case. What do you guys know? :)

When people say rebuilt 7-bolts tend to walk, they are saying that the car has Already walked, and rebuilt walked 7-bolts tend to walk. You should be fine. Go for it. Im assuming by ur words that you arn't rebuilding your motor because you just walked right now.

Paul s, a member of this board has a rebuilt 7 bolt that was not a crank walk 7 bolt....just a rebuild cause it was time. He has just finished his second summer with no problems. His car runs an 11.9 @ 119.

Personally, I think its over rated. Not saying it can't happen, but I've heard of 6 bolts walking as well. I'm actually finishing up my rebuilt 7 bolt stroker. My motor has the dual thrust bearings which I guess is not common in 2nd gens.

Apparently, Mitsu started using the daul thrust bearings in the later 2nd gens. I think this was an attempt to cure CW. At any rate, I also heard of a few guys building 7 bolts and they have seen good results and are putting down good power. I had a very difficult time deciding between rebuilding my 7 bolt or buying a 6 bolt when I did my build up. My advice to you would be to take your time when making this decision. Once your mind is made up don't look back and second guess yourself.

what was the build date on your car?

My car is a 1999 model, but the build date was mid-late 98, and i think i have the newer block design, because i heard this also, about mitsu attempting to fix the crankwalk in the later 2gs

I have 80000 miles now on my GST, and (knockknockknock on wood) it doesnt seeem to have crankwalk yet, i havent checked the play or anything though

I am on a 16g now thinking of going to a 50trim, only because i heard people still running hard at 120k+, but with 80000on the clock, should i worry about going to a 50trim?

I only want about 350whp on race gas...not much more, 300whp on the street

My car is a 1998, I bought it in Oct 97. Since I store it in a remote garage I can't verify the build date now. Being that you have a 99 model you definetly have the split thrust bearings. A larger sized turbo will not make create or promote CW.

I believe in the heavy pressure plate theory causing CW. If you want to upgrade to a 50 trim go for it. That turbo will definetly meet and leave room to exceed your power goals.

cool

as far as the pressure plate, im not concerned because im getting the feramic clutch, cant get any better then a stock pressure plate, yet because of the disk, will hold as good as a 2500....

i believe in clutch material, not pressure plates...so all is good :thumb:
