So my last thread about the GT30r didn't go so well, so I thought I would chime in with a small update about the GT30r.
In the end my spooling problem came down to a wastegate issue that I solved by adding a large amount of preload to the arm to keep the flapper from blowing open on spool up. I am happy to say I now get ~20 psi at 3600 RPMs.
I have to say I am really happy with the performance of this turbo on pump gas so far. I knew I wasn't going to be getting a pump gas king like a 50-trim when I bought this thing, but so far it's pretty good.
I ditched the S-AFC/Pocketlogger combo and went for DSMLink V2/Innovate LM-1 combo and I have to say they have been the best investment I have made yet.
So far I have the car tuned for 11.1:1 AFR at 20.6 psi. I am seeing a max of 35.7 lb/min with a stock head/cam/intake manifold, so I am pretty happy with that. I am going to keep tuning and see if I can run 22 psi without any major knock and see what kind of airflow I can get with this thing.
Would I recommend this turbo to everyone? Well I love the turbo, but I would like to see the install be a little more of a bolt on job. I mean you really have to beat up your water pipe to get this thing to fit. I kind of wish SBR could have cast a TH that would let turbo's like this with a large CH fit without a lot of modifications to the water pipe. I also had to remove a eye bolt for the water source on the block and tap into another source, but again a TH that moved the turbo away from the block would solve that issue also.
Even with those small issues, I am very happy with this turbo and would say go ahead and get one if the two problems I described above aren't really a big deal to you.
Oh and be sure to get a external gate with a turbo of this size, it will definitely make your life a lot easier in the long run. I will probably be going with a o2 mounted external sometime in the future.
You can thank hurricane Ivan for making me bored enough to write out this review,
