95-99 Eclipse GS RS Turbo Swap

hey all,

ive been told by many its a lot more difficult than people think to swap a 4g63t into the 420a engine bay......im thinkin about buying a 98 gs cause i found it cheap.....whats the full breakdown on swaping an evo3 or gst swap......and is there any way i can make it all wheel drive if so what exactly needs to be done thanks all

to put the engine in would be more expensive than buying a GST/X or TSI /AWD! + i never heard anything about awd conversion on a 2g nt... so i think it is not possible, but if you swap in a 4g63 you should be able to do so! for the evo engine... i don't think you have no chance to find one! but gl anyways

You cannot put a 4g63 into a 2nd gen nt. The unibodies between the nt's and turbo's are different enough for the engine mounts that the engines cannots be interchanged. You would be better off just holding out until you find a cheap turbo car.

thanks dsmpride thats what i thought cause both motors are positioned totally different cause i sell jdm swaps and most people want to do this swap and i tell em......but a couple people said they can do it but i told them not to mess with it but just wanted to know from people on here as well to make sure thanks

I know this thread is old but.... I feel like answering it. Stop saying that doing the 4g63 in a N/T is impossible because you can. You can do it but you need the following parts:

-4g63 turbo engine ->the obvious one
-4g63 transmission
-Wiring harness for engine
-4g63 ECU
-Shift linkage
-Custom engine mounts
-Chassis cross member
-complete exhaust
-Intercooler, turbo, related parts...
-Boost gauge

I won't tell anybody to sell their N/T and buy a GS-T/X. All you gotta consider is how much $$$$$ you wanna spend on it. The main reason peeps say not to do this swap is because it's not worth the money based on a GS-T/X's selling price. My Eclipse GS 98 cost me 5000$ US so, doing the swap on my car was less expensive than selling it and bying one. So, the situation is different from one person to another. All you gotta do is see what's more advantageous for you. The problem with this swap thing is that you never get pretty good answers so the question is always altered. Look around on many forums about this question and you won't see THE ANSWER to the question. What you always get is the usual answers: "Sell your N/T and buy......" etc. How can we bring a good understanding on the technical aspect of this swap when you get such answers??? The answer is you don't get any good comprehension on it. No wonder why you always see this same question all over the forums from newbies. They're not to blame.
