Ok. I just got my turbo looked at by a local dsm mechanic and my turbo is getting ready to blow. This is understandable with 98000 miles on it. And only 3000 turbo timed. So my question is where to go from here. My goal for my car is a 12.5 second quater mile. So i don't need a huge turbo. Plus i am on a budget.(i am only 17). So what kinda turbos do you guys suggest. I was thinking about buying a used turbo off the dsmtrader.com but that kinda scares me because i wouldn't know if the turbo is in good condition or not. Well what do you guys suggest?

I'm gonna be aiming for 12's too when I get my car. And since I just started college I'm gonna be on a fairly tight budget too. From what I've read, a Big16G is the way to go. Anything bigger can add too much spool time or just push hot air at the top end.

What are you smoking?? The smaller turbo, such as the 16G, is going to push more hot air on the top end that a bigger one, such as a 50-trim. Bigger turbos will, in general, spool slower, but they are more efficient at higher boost levels than the smaller turbo, which makes more power.

TalonRacer: I suggest you look into one of the new hybrids (ETE32, Green, or L2R) which will give you more room to expand if you get to mid 12's and then decide you want to run mid 11's.

Remember he is on a budget. Unless his idea of budget is $1600+ I'd steer him toward a 16G. You can easily get into the 12's on a small/big 16G with the proper support mods. :thumb:

True, I wasn't thinking about a budget, just making a suggestion. I went through the same dilemma a wile back, and ended up buying a 16G, which did run 12's. However, a few months later I found myself wanting to go faster. If I could change it, I would have just bought the T3/T4 in the first place.

A 20g with an internal gate, L1 (AGP with internal gate), or even a Big28 would all probably be a good choice.

Personally I'd go 20g or L1 on a car looking for mid 12's, granted a 16g can do it.... it's just a LOT easier to do it with a bigger turbo.
