got a cel last night and checked it on my logger. p0300, randomn misfire. i figured its all good and that the ecu is still a lil f'ed up from the bigger cams (hks 272/272) i installed last week. anyone else with bigger cams get this code. i did a search and found one guy who got this code with bigger cams. thanks to my logger i can erase it :dsm:

That's a common code associated with swapping a 6 bolt into a 2G. My friend gets it all the time, sucks cause the car will barely run after it happens.

Hi,

I checked online with alldata for the P0300 code. It is a random misfire caused by
- ignition related parts failure
- poor crankshaft position sensor signal
- incorrect air/fuel ratio
- low compression pressure
- ECU (ECM) failure
If you want I can sent you an e-mail with a file attached that shows you the scanning procedure to go step by step thru your problem.

y get dsm link when i can just delete the code with my loggger? and it definetly has to do with installing the bigger cams. as for now im not worried about it. car ran the same when code came up anyway. i was just curious if u guys with bigger cams got this also

i am running into this problem since I installed my HKS 264-272s. You ever find a answer?

nah man i never got a full explanation. im guessing its a fluke and that when it idles at like 700-750ish it pulls such low vaccuum and idles so roughly that it pulls a randomn misfire. ive since upped my idle to 1,000 ish and i dont get it anymore. however i now get a check engine light for IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM every now and then while at idel cause the idle is so high now. thank god for the logger. i just look it up and delete it

with dsmlink you can tell it to not even scan for that code so you will NEVER throw a light for that or have any more problems ... heck you probably wouldn't even notice when it does miss. As far as a logger ... dsmlink > logger / safc by far.

Yeah, I had a local DSMer with a similar setup said the same thing. Thanks for your insight.

me = dont have money for dsm link. and if u ask em dsm link is not all thst and a bag of chips anyway. im am however gonna continue to tune with my safc and logger and am getting a wideband. why go through the hassle of uninstalling my safc and getting the 95 ecu for dsm link?

maybe if i had nothing to tune with dsm link would be my choice. but its just not worth it in my eyes right now

That's because you've never used DSMlink. It does everything your AFC+logger+ignition control could ever hope to do and more. And it does them better. :thumb:

So you guys run into the p0300 code since you installed your cams?? After I get my labtop in the next month or so, you really think DSMlink is worth the extra money? I have a 95 so I already have the 95 Eprom.

Ask anyone with the link. It is far superior to any other form of tuning, save maybe a full standalone, but that requires wiring and a baseline tune for the car to even run. DSMlink runs through the stock ECU so no messy wiring for you. It's a full data logger with more samples per sec than your logger could hope for. It also has the ability to log knock, which a logger will not do on a 2g. Fuel adjustments are made to WOT only so driving around town your car will drive like a normal DSM, no quirks or stalling from running too far out of the factory fuel maps. Timing adjustments can be made across the entire RPM range. Try that with your AFC. Not to mention the other awesome features, ALS, 2 and 3 step stutters, nitrous controls, HP and Tq calculators. Still think that logger+AFC combo is better?

Okay, i just swapped in a 6 bolt motor. It runs fine, especially under boost but is misfiring randomly at idle; BUT i'm NOT getting a Random Misfire CEL. What i want to clear up is that the RM CEL most people talk about when doing 6-bolt swaps is just the CEL and not a real misfire, correct? My misfire is most likly NOT because of the inverted CAS signal is what i think im understanding. And because i don't throw a RM CEL i don't *have to* get DSMlink (i would sell a limb for it but i don't have the cash now, the car has to work for 3 months before i dump another grand on it at this point :p  )

... if its just the CEL then why do people worry about it so much? i ignor my ABS light all day, but then again you might want to know when somethings really wrong. any one whos done a 6-bolt swap give me a PM because i got a few Q's about this misfire :( .

The RM code throws the car into limp mode. At which point it's barely drivable, let alone fun. If your not getting the RM code then you may actually have a real misfire. There's a theory that the RM code can be solved by wiring in a potentiometer somewhere. Magnus had a big write up on it but their site is down right now.

it goes in to limp mode? now i see the importance of stopping the CEL from poping up. There wasn't a problem until the CEL comes on, thats almost funny that the CEL causes more of a problem then it solves :thumbdown But my misfire occures as soon as the engine is turned on even after the ECU is reset, no CELs at all. Yes i did see the magnus 10k Ohm pentometer in the baro wire trick. my misfire is from something else i guess and so far no signs of RM CEL problems :shhh:

I'm going to replace the O2 sensor and see what happens. :|

PS: i'm using a Black top CAS but also used a 90 CAS with the same situation (still no CEL).
