installed these last night and with the help of the head mechanic at my shop we retimed it. did not touch the balance shaft belt. welp not only does the car idle like a bag of asshole, (expected) it stalls out at every stop i come to (not expected). when i get on the throttle i feel major vibration coming from the motor. i had the same feeling before when my timing belt and b shaft belt was done and my balance shaft belt was off by one tooth. could it be possible for that to happen without even touching the b shaft belt?

were gonna investigate later on today. any input would be helpful thanks :dsm:

Your timing is off somewhere totally, I mean that's pretty obvious. Weather it's a cam gear thats off, or balance shaft thats off, something is amiss. You need to go back over the entire timing beld setup and make sure everything is ok.

The same thing happened when I did my first timing belt change, I would step on it and it would vibrate. Go back and make sure that all your timing marks are in the right place and then put the belt back on.

When i did my cams i did it the rre way. TDC and a few zip ties....bada bing :) We did mar up the cam seals a little so there is a small leak, but that will wait for another time :)

Are you sure your oil pump is not off? That will also cause some wicked vibrations.

I just got my race motor together last week and installed. It idled about 700rpm the first day I had them in when I lost tension in my timing belt. I took it to my mechanic and had him redo the timing, and after that it idled around 2000rpm's LOL. The timing (read: timing as in timing light, not redo'ing the timing belt) is definitely off so I would definitely check that out. When it was idling at 700rpm, it was very rought, but once we were able to get the idle up to around 850rpm's, she idled smooth as a Bentley...well, not a Bentley as my stiff motor mounts rattle my teeth off, but smooth nonetheless. Don't worry though, there is still hope :thumb:

Since you didn't give a more detailed description of how the job was done I'm guessing you set everything to tdc, took off the timing belt, installed the cams, and put the belt back on w/o touching the b-belt. If that's what you did, are you sure the rear balance shaft was in phase w/ the front? Since the rear is driven by the oil pump sprocket it can easily drop out of phase. Look at the timing belt vfaqs to align it w/ the front.

turn up your idle - should fix stalling issue.

as others have said, check your rear balance shaft timing - should fix vibration

alright guys, we figured it out. the oil pump sprocket was 180 degrees out of phase. and the oil pump sprocket directly effects the rear balance shaft. so just as i suspected my balance shafts were out of phase. i turned the biss so my idle is higher and im in love with it.

we finished at almost 200 in the morning friday night and i went to import wars the next day. basically no time to tune. after a few runs in the morning i did minimal tuning on 117 octane and almost 22 lbs of boost, on a 98 degree day and 100 % humnidity, i pulled a 12.655 @ 110.09 mph. im gonna post my slip in a few. thanks for all of your responses.

Oooohoohoohoo, I was right! :D

I think I got mine dialed in correctly today too...my throttle body cable was too tight and not allowing the TB to close all of the way. I'm with you...I'm in love with these cams.
