I am getting a Indy Race Cores Race FMIC Kit, and i wanted to know what after market front bumper would offer the best airflow. I don't want a full bodykit just a front end.

The front bumper from a 90-91 TSi AWD or GSX will fit that intercooler, with some cutting. And, IMO, is the best looking bumper you can get on a 1G.

Yes...the 1g bumper has a better opening than the 92+. Depends on if your getting the street or race core, but the street core should be perfect for the 90-91 bumper. I have a street core on mine and it fits sooooo perfect. You can see the whole lngth of intercooler as well as about 75% of the end tanks, the only part that is really covered is about 1.5-2" of the top of the IC which isnt a big deal. If you get a race core than the 90-91 will flow much better than the 92+, but still will not be to sufficient in keeping the whole thing open. If you get a race core than the only aftermrket bumper you could get to show the whole thing would have to be huge, which IMO would look like shite. I would stick with your bumper and if needed cut it. Heres a perfect example of a 90-91 with a race core, and it also happens to be my personal favoritehttp://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=381&thumb=1

Here is a street core http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5096&papass=&sort=1

im not big on body kits, and i like them even less on 1g's. the 91 tsi and gsx front bumpers have the largest openings. however you're stock laser opening should be fine.

Not as horrendous as most, but it still screams rice machine. What's that I see on the back? That's not a super rice boy wing is it? a simple 91 bumper will look a billion times better. 2g's can get away with it, but 1g's simply can not

Also, there's a 5 in. monster tach on the middle of the dash ...... nasty.

The bumper can be found at www.wholesalehyperformance.com

and maybe www.asylumms.com

yea i cut him #@%#@%#@%#@% about his tach (left over from his parked 9 second cutlass when he put an auto in it) and his park bench wing.

can someone post some pix of 92+ with street and race cores on them? which would flow better on a 93 with the stock bumper?

you will need a sawzall:D

the install is not super difficult, once you remove the bumper cover and bumper support. its fairly easy, the passages on either side of the rad have to be opened up some. for the piping to fit, and the power steering cooler needs to be moved. it sounds complicated, but once you get started you will se that its all pretty simple. some just loop the line and eliminate the power steering cooler completely.

Thanx guys. I'm gonna start saving up to get my FMIC from IRC. What do you guys suggest, the street core or the race core? since most of the race core will be covered up by the stock bumper anyways. thanx

dont make the mistake i made, get the race core from the start. also ask ken about the extruded tubing cores

Its not a mistake to get a streetcore. Granted its not huge, but it will support a lot of power and large turbos. When you order just ask Ken and see what he recommends. Id say if your going to be running t3/t4 or 20g or less than it should be fine, thats what he told me. Good luck. Oh and if he gives you a choice of powdercoating, ask for the charcoal/gunmetal he does a great job, and it looks great in my engine bay!!:thumb:
