I'm getting really annoyed with the smoke my car makes at idle now. Its a forged bottom end ( 7 bolt ) with a 1g head swap. The head I got from a friend so I'm not 100% sure in the condition of the valves. I know back when I had my 2g head on the car my compression was 175 - 175 - 175 - 175 .... now I'm kinda all over the place. 180 - 170 - 160 - 165. I'm thinking the valves have a slight leak causing those low numbers and also the smoke at idle. Any other ideas what could be causing the smoke if it only happens at idle and only really bad during the initial warm up? Thanks for the help .. I may just put my 2g head back on since I know that's not leaking at all.
 
Hey, Sounds like the head needs to come off again. Needs new valve gides and seals.
 
yea that's what I thought as well. I'm going to swap my stock 2g head back on with 1g cams and see if that takes care of it because I know that head is good still. Anything else that could cause the smoking? A bad turbo would always smoke ... especially under boost right so that can't be it?

How many miles on that 2g head? I would have it rebuilt if it has over 60k on it since its off the engine. Also how many miles on your turbo?? I would not worry about the short block since is brand new. More than likley its the head thats giving you problems.
 
59k on the head ... 3k on the turbo. I'm just going to put the head on and then rebuild the 1g head and swap that back on down the road. Just making sure it isn't anything stupid that I just missed. Thanks.
