Toronto,
I have a FULLY stock 1999 :dsm: Eclipse GSX

What i want to do is reach 275-280 HP. So i have a few questions. As described on the guide on this site i need quite a few supporting mods for this. This is understandable but what I am wondering which brand and exactly parts I need for this? First question EVO III 16G Turbo is any good? Also with FMIC do I need one for this setup even a small one for stock one will do fine? I want this car still be daily driver and last me some time. What about exhaust manifold? Which one would you guys recommend? As for exhaust system i decided to have 2.5" O2, down pipe, high flow car and the rest.... should i go 3" after down pipe? I don’t want to it be SCREAMING @ WOT but still have nice sound. Which setup is recommended Performance Clutch? I heard that putting one increases chance of crank walk.... Are Intercooler Piping is really necessary? AS for the budget... I have around $4000 USD to spend. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

about 99% of your question by using the search button but ill answer most of them for you:

1. First question EVO III 16G Turbo is any good?
A. the big 16G is the backbone of the DSM world it has accomplished everything from drag, rally, to autoX. The EVO 16G just adds more to the mix by losing 2lbs of rotational mass to increase spool time. A stiffer wastegate spring to hold more boost. A bigger inducer for more power.

2. Also with FMIC do I need one for this setup even a small one for stock one will do fine?
A. To get the most out of a medium size turbo like a 16G it is good to get a upgraded Side Mount Inter Cooler (DejonTool or a MK4 Supra). Since you said you are on a budget a FMIC is nesscary because the SMIC are cheaper and still get direct air.

3. What about exhaust manifold?
A. You can either port your 2G manifold OR buy a new EVO or Slowboy Race cast-iron manifold. Since you are a budget a good port job will do fine.

4. As for exhaust system i decided to have 2.5" O2, down pipe, high flow car and the rest.... should i go 3" after down pipe?
A. Once again since you are on a budget porting your 2G o2 housing will be enough for a 16G. As for the rest of the exhaust system everyone has different opinions. If i were in you shoes i would get a 2.5" DP and high flow cat leading to a full 3" cat-back. Having a full 3" turbo back exhaust has been know to lead to boost creep on 16G.

5. Which setup is recommended Performance Clutch? I heard that putting one increases chance of crank walk
A. Yes your gonna need a performance clutch sooner or later (the stock one blows). You dont need a tranny buster clutch such as a ACT 2600, a ACT 2100 or Clutchmaster stage 2 will be more than enough to handle the power of a 16G. As for crankwalk...deal with it, if it happens it happens dont stress over it.

6. Are Intercooler Piping is really necessary?
A. you will need AT LEAST a new UICP because the 2G have a HUGH kink next to the air box. Also the mesh material is not as good as a hard pipe because it expands under pressure.

THESE ARE THE BASIC UPGRADES THAT YOU NEED TO GET ABOUT 75%-80% out of a 16G

K&N filter- $40
1G BOV- $80 (NEW)
MBC- $60
boost gauge- $60
custom made exhaust- $400-$600
I/C piping- $210
ported EVO 16G- $600
basic install kit- $200
upgraded SMIC- $500
clutch- $400
fuel pump- $110
EGT gauge- $150

Thank you for your response and info. Is Porting Evo 16G turbo is really necessary? Running listed setup, what PSI would i need to reach around 275 WHP and MAX PSI I can hit while I race? And installation for most parts, will it require someone professional to do it. I know my way around cars but I am no a pro so I am not sure if i should touch or put any of those parts on. I did put body kit of my car and remade the interior but no engine work as of yet....

All those parts are very easy to install ... just have someone help that knows what they are doing. Porting is not NEEDED, but why not? It's basically free so why not do it?

Prodidgy man I just purchased an EVO III kit fromBuschur Racing in late June. I got the EVO manifold, 02 housing and turbo, all ported. I also went with the Buschur 2.5" ss mandrel bent turbo back with test pipe. I am going to upgrade the turbo. The EVO is fine but I would like a 50 trim. I also have 550c injectors recently purchased. I am willinh to sell the turbo and/or any combination of these parts. Email me if interested. I have the receipts. Mark

How did you like your combo? Were the 550's enough for it? How much boost were you running?

The 550's are plenty, in fact I know of one guy who has 660's and wishes he went with the 550's. I also have the GM MAF-Translator and you would need some kind of tuning aid to go with the larger injectors. Oh I have gone up to 22 psi but run around 18 usually. It's a good jump especially if you want spooling as quick as stock. I need to get a logger to fine tune it for more power. i now it has more but without a logger i need to be conservative and I run on the rich side. Mark

i have the 2100 on my fwd with a big16g on about 18psi with all supporting mods except upgraded intercooler which is why only 18psi. if i could do it over again.. id go with 2600, the 2100 will bog on a hard 3rd gear and up shift.

Hey man wouldn't the 2100 slip rather than bog since it's the weaker of the 2 discs? Just a note tht several guys including myself are having problems with ACT clutches not disengaging fully. Mark

sorry for the newb question , i found answers to most my questions , but what is a 50 trim turbo ? i was about to buy a evo3 and wondering why ^^^ went with a 50 trim instead

Please explain to me how a clutch "bogs"?

I think the best clutch for a modded FWD is the CFDF 2500.

umm, 2lbs? explain yourself.

DSM spyder99 has the weight close. 2 lbs of rotational mass? Actually the turbine housing is around 2.75 lbs. less in weight due to a new turbine casting. Man if there was enough rotational mass to remove 2 lbs. it would spool without lag! The compressor wheel is lightened a bit with .015" blades compared to the old 16G and it's .030" blades. I have all EVO III exhaust components, all ported and I found that it spools as quick as the 14B so nothing was lost in the upgrade. Mrk

You would be. Who cares if Spyder is within 50% of the weight of the wrong part of the turbo? It's clear he has no idea whats going on.
