Could someone explain to me the difference between these different items?

they are for my 92 Eagle Talon Turbo 2wd.

My question is, whats the difference between the cylinder head gasket and the cylinder head gasket set?

The cylinder head gasket is only the gasket for the head. The set includes a whole bunch of other stuff. Not sure on this kit totally, however generally they come with valve cover gasket, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, many times valve guides, and a few other small bits and pieces.

If your only looking for a head gasket just order the 4 layer mitsu gasket from the dealer.

They said that the 4 layer mistubishi head gasket is about twice as thick as the stock head gasket and that it lowers compression slightly. Is it still worth it to get this head gasket?, or is there another alternative.

From what I've read, it states that the reason for the 4 layer setup would be to be used in part with a resurfaced head. This makes sense because it would even out the cylinder head and would allow more room for error when it comes to resurfacing a head to a precise diameter.

This is atleast what I've gathered in the last couple minutes.

Very, very slightly. Not enough to put a number on.

Because if my head dosnt need resurfacing, I don't think I need the 4 layer gasket...or would I? I would just get a factory head gasket unless someone could sway me otherwise.

I surfaced .014" off of my head and ran a stock head gasket with no problems.

I'm really in the dark here about checking if my head gasket is good and checking for cracks in the head. Anyone have any input to help me out?

the only way to check for cracks in an aluminum head is visually and pressure testing. They dip the head in water and send pressure through it to see if air leaks out anywhere. You can't magnaflux an alum. head.
