Hello all
I searched this forum for some information that i need but couldn't find any, so here my question:
I got 96 eclipse GS, I found out that my timing belt should be changed but its about $1000
My plan for future is to put a turbo in my car so here is the main question: whats better, buy a turbo kit or swap a new or w/ low miles turbo engine?

For turbo kit: ~$2500+
Do i need to replace internals, pistons, rods etc? what else do i have to replace?
If not, what is resource of this engine ( i heard 420 is not strong enough for turbo)?

swap: ~$2000
I have to install turbo compute, ecu, wiring what else?

I guess swaping a turbo engine will be much cheaper and easier, isn't it?
What are you guys think?

Welcome to our site. The cheapest and easiest means of turbo-charging a DSM is to purchase a 4G63T equipped ride, such as a GST or GSX.

Some common myths surrounding this purchase include:

1. Insurance is higher on turbo cars.

(Eclipse GS and RS models are classified as sport cars, the same classification that makes the turbo rides more costly to insure.)

2. 4G63's are unreliable.

(They have stronger internals and higher nickel content cylinders than 420A's.)

It is good to see that you are interested in performance, please let us know which path you choose for your upgrades.

It is always easier and cheaper. Learn more on the subject before you attempt to correct me. :D

"Nutshot" is correct. It wont be worth the time, and money to turbo the N/A. I was going to go that route awhile back, and I ended up finding a good deal on a 97 TSi AWD. I did A LOT of research, and spoke to the techs at Hahn Racecraft, and it just ended up not being a good idea. I bought the car from a guy in his 50s, although it had high highway miles, it was a good deal. I think if you look around enough you can get a 2G fairly cheap. As for the car not being paid off, well thats another issue :). Although as much as you dont want to hear it, and you want positive replies to your question. EVERYONE will tell you the same... You could goto the N/A section, and ask questions, and possibly get your question resolved. Good luck!

Check this link out though... Should be a great help.

Can somebody move this topic to non-turbo? I still want to find an information about it, just to have this info in my head.
