I'm fairly new to DSMTuners, but not to the automotive world or forums. I have one request that would help a lot of people. I see about 2 new threads every week asking about turbos and usually between 2-3 turbos and what their usual output is and what Whp and spool time they can expect from each turbo. Can we make a sticky that we can put all the popular Turbos with cfm, lbs./min, and average spool (Using a manifold) in. And have a mod post it so that the first post can have all the info in it?

I know you can search and find what you want. It seems most people don't like searching cause they kept having to read the exact post they asked for which says to go searching or their is the same bad information in that post. A lot of people I've noticed are quit paitent and give replys to all these "What turbo should I get" posts with some good information. I'm on vacation ATM so I don't have a whole lot of time or the links to get all the info and put it into a single post, but if it's not done within a few weeks I'll do it personally with links to all the compressor Maps so that won't be asked for all the time.

I support this idea, yet it wont matter. Even with a big huge sticky on top people wont read it and will still ask the same questions. So instead of yelling "SEARCH!!!!" we would yell "READ THE STICKY AT THE TOP!!!!"
 
True that... But maybe not as much... not everyone is blind.. But we can't help that can we???
 
And when talking spool as such every car is different.

Then we will get threads like

"I checkout the link and so and so spools at xxxx rpm with x turbo. why don't I.
 
I cant give all the answeres, but Ill work on this tonight. Cant list every turbo avaiable, but I will include specs on the most popular. But its up to John if he would like to sticky it or not.

John, would you like me to start a new thread, or post this info in this thread? Or just bag the idea. Your call.
 
doing specs for the common turbos like the t28 and 16g are easily done enough. but once you move onto 50 trims and every shops different types; mix it with diff housings and sizes.. you'll get a myriad of different results particular to each car and turbo/car setup.

Then ban them for not reading and unsterstanding the rules like was stated while they were registering. ;)
 
I have written an article with the specs of the more popular turbos people ask about. I did not include spoolup or power potential, since this can be very different on different cars. But it will give a very good understanding to those that know at least one turbo is. That way they can base an oppinion of the rest according to the size of the wheels used.

Thank you for doing this and John for putting it in the FAQ section. I do understand that Spool and Power output are dependent on Exhaust/manifold combinations and tunning. I was just thinking of a general with a stock manifold 3" exhaust and a good tune... Seems most people are running this setup and a lot of new comers are going to be running these same setup's and can get a guestimate on what they can maybe expect.

I wasn't asking for personal knowlage. Just asking cause I haven't seen this all in one spot. Their is a lot of info in that post and when I get back from vacation I'll see about getting some spec's and more info on anything not listed already.

Power potential is equal to the maxium flow in lb/min multiplied by 10-11. That's pretty much a constant.

You missed a whole bunch of turbos and wheels, I will add what I can.
 
I didnt miss any. :D I only included those that I felt were relevent. Adding 16Gs, 20Gs, turbonetics, and larger than I included is in my oppinion a waste. I would have spent 6 hours instead of three. ;)

Really, I only listed the wheels I had deffinate specs on. And I listed the most popular turbos from the most popular vendors. Adding to the list would be very beneficial.

The EvoIII 16g is probably the most popular turbo avaliable right now, and the 20g is always a favorite. Not to mention, as or more capable than a 50 trim.
