Has anyone had any experience with one of these their in between a large 16G and an 18G
 
Ok i can now answer it for you, i just got the car back together after some major stuff up that i did. I just put in my new front mount 600X300X76 with 3" ic plumbing. I had by mistake blocked my oil tank breather! big mistake i took the car for a drive and couldn't see behind me for the smoke. I looked inside the the ic plumbing and it was full of oil!! so i pulled the turbo off and overhaul it, while it was off i noticed that the waste gate was not seating fully it had nearly a 1/16 gap most of the way around it. i fixed that problem and refitted the rebuilt turbo which i now know is an TD05H18a. When i started the car it still blew shitloads of smoke and filled the ic pipes again.

After wanting to burn the car to the ground i saw the breather tank vent was blocked so i fixed that and guess what? the smoke disappeared nearly immediatly, in the long run the turbo was fine it didn't need the rebuild (crankcase had no vent!!) Have to now redo my maps the power is awesome but knock has appeared, i am running 98octane and injector duty skyrockets past 100, need to upgrade the 550's.

So if anyone is interested in the 18a the bum dyno say's, if i can stop the lack of traction in a third gear pull their not bad. Last dyno results were 292whp @ 343 ftlb at 6870rpm with a stuffed wastegate flapper!and a small intercooler. Soon as i get some bigger injectors i'll post it!
 
The 18a is a 16G with a 17c comp wheel Buy an EVO and you will do better. Mark
 
I just installed an EVO III exhaust,02 housing and turbo. I desperately need an axhaust. I have a 2" down pipe!!! I put 3 gallons of 112 octane into my usual 93 fill-up and uppe the boost t 20. Did my first 4500rpm launch and to take off without spin is wild. 1st is gone in 2 secs.! Mark
 
The 18a pumps a lot more CFM than a big16G i will post the specks up later when i get home from work
 
Please post the source also. A big 16G fows 550 cfm @ 15 PSI. A 17C flows 550CFM @ 15 PSI. I have an intetest in turbo's, kinda a hobby!
 
i found out what my turbo was by using www.stealth316.com/2-turboguide.htm, and then spoke to a guy over here at rotomaster they had built and tested some of these 18a's. he said no prob's chasing 450 at the wheels with the right injectors and pump. Tell me what you think?
 
A 50 trim is rated at 450HP potential and has a 3" inlet. I got info on the 18A at vfaq. Probably more like 380HP like most tubo's that low 550 CFM at 15 PSI.
 
Have run 22psi thats all my map sensor allows at the moment am chasing 3 bar GM now. truck has some good mods just to play with at the moment. ported 1G, arp everything shotpeened and polished rods. staged injection (thats going chasing 860's) big FMIC, rising rate fuel pressure reg' balance shafts gone. equivilent to hks 272's, tubular o2 manifold. i am building 4G64/63 head at the moment so if this one grenades, I dont really care,it will be a learning curve, kepp you's posted.

By all means if you already have the 18A use it! 22 PSI is probably it's upper limit for making power. The nice thing about the turbo's with the "C" wheels is their quick spool. How did you come to posess such a rare turbo? There can't be many of those around! Good luck and keep us posted. Mark
 
It came with the motor! i thought it was a small 16g when i looked in the inlet of it, i had a 4g54B in the truck and split the block along the welsh plugs. they had a massive 70kw rating approx90hp at the flywheel bit slow for me, so with a bit of patience and a couple of grand $$ Its fun now! but will get serious with the 4G64!! Have a To4e 60trim with .70ar split pulse turbine. that i will put on the "64".
