I have a 98 gst spyder with a bad head gasket. I have 98,000 miles on it with intake, 3" turbo back exhaust, boost controler, bov, icp. My question is what do you guys think I should upgrade or what work should i have done while the head is off. The valves are loud as hell now and not sure if I should take care of them now or not. I am looking for low 12s or high 11s in the 1/4. let me know what you guys think I should have done. and i also have 90-100psi in each cyl. when i checked it. Is this about right?

other than the head gasket?
1g head, will this help at all?
any port work?
valves so they are not as loud?
decked/planed or what ever they call it and have the thin head gasket

thanks

high 11's in a fwd spyder, good luck. Anyway you I think each cylinder should be about 165-170psi with that many miles, however if you have a bad head gasket it would be way off so that might be all that your problem is there. Might as well get a 1g head and port it and put it on while your at it.

that compression number sounds about right for a cold motor, not one warmed up. depending on where your head gasket is blown it might only affect 1 cylinder, possibly 2 if it's between cylinders.

If your going to get it ported use the 2nd gen head because they can be ported to flow better than a 1st gen ported head. If going make alot of power later then go ahead and get arp studs and maybe even Ferrera Valves depending on your goals.

when my head gasket went I decided to port my 2g head along with the 1g Intake Manifold and TB.. I also put in a crower head package including ss oversized valves, new springs & retainers, and cams while I was at it..
