i have been looking and reading up on intake manifolds.. and i have 1 question because i am confused... which is better? a ported 2g manifold.. or a aftter market manifold (intake manifolds)... they both claim to put-in 100% more air then the stock.. WELL THATS A NOBRAINER.. this venom intake i was looking at looked alot prettier then teh 2g thats ported... but is all i would be paying for the the prettyness of the venom?
thnaks alot guys

A sheetmetal intake will provide more top end power than a ported OEM manifold. However, they have disadvantages too.

what would be the disadvantages... and what would you put on your car for just like lets say.. uhm just for example.. street racing?
OMG :shhh:

For street racing, or any kind of racing, I would use the manifold that best fits the conditions.

If the car is running medium boost on a 14b or a 16g, and stock or mild cams, I would just stick with the stock manifold. Once you get into larger turbos like the 20g and Garrett compressor wheels, it's time for bigger cams, in which case a SMIM (sheet metal intake manifold) becomes a good buy.

You'll notice that I did not mention a ported stock manifold in there anywhere; in my opinion, a ported stock manifold makes sense in mainly one situation, where spool and low end torque are very important. This may be a street car to some people, but in the vast majority of cases it is an autocross car.

The disadvantages are a more difficult install, and sometimes you need to do things like make a new upper intercooler pipe, and relocate the battery. You'll also have to relocate the coil pack, etc.

I am under the impression that a 1g would be a better swap for a 2g than a SMIM. A properly installed cyclone manifold will give you the best of both worlds with its dual runners.

Actually, A smim would blow a 1g mani away for the 2g car. The reason being you would have to do a lot of port work to adapt a 1g mani. There is a huge size difference in the runners between the 2 and you cannot just open up the runners to match the gasket. A better question would be would it be better to go with a 1g head and intake manifold rather than a 2g SMIM. tough call on that one. However, I know of several people who have had tons of success on the 2g SMIM on the stock 2g head. People give up on the 2g head too soon IMHO. I'm on the market for one now, but am wondering if I should just get a 1g head and buy that manifold. I wouldn't need it now, but it wouyld save me money in the long run. Thew cyclone manifold is not a performance part.

Have a look at this thread I made. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129494

Basically with a stock 2G motor on a 50trim with stock cams by adding nothing more than a Magnus SMIM and 1G throttle body I went from 12.55 to 12.13. I did not notice any changes in mid range power however I'm sure there were some but honestly my car feels faster all over the board so I could not really tell.
