who has cut their crank

I want opinions from people who have actually had to cut their crank

my main bearings in the spare motor i picked up that im rebuilding were shot and wore into the journals and it needs cut, my machine shop said .010 should clean it up and is charging 125 for it, which isnt too bad i dont think

Mine was turned .010 by FFWD Connection, no problems so far. Clevite bearings. Make sure the polish afterwards and chamfer the oil holes, radius the journals.

The crank was turned on my first 6bolt.... 128 miles later, it spun a rod bearing. I used the right bearings and everything, had the motor blueprinted, etc. Bottom line is i will never turn my crank again. Our cranks have a nitride coating on them, when you turn it, the crank softens. Softened crank is asking for problems.

I would do it and get it re-nitrated. I had to turn my crank and nobody offers nitrating here so I had no choice.

Did .025 over on the rod and mains and everything is fine 1,500miles later. I did a good break in and used full synthetic right after it.

-I'm not sure if nitrated is same as heat-tread or not, but mine was turn and heat-treaded by RRE.
