The shop says my turbo is on its way out. So i have been looking around for a new turbo...at first i was thinking of going with the t28. But it seems that the 16gs are running cheaper than the t28. So my question is what is the bare minimum for supporting mods on the 16g? I have looked into it and all i can find are the setups with the biggest and best of everything...and i am just looking to do it on a budget for now! Also what else would i have to worry with when turning the boost up with a 16g. Thanks

Ok I will help you out, but do a search on 16gs for what others are running. There are many things you need to do (stage one and two) because of the more air flow and stress you will be puting on the motor. The main thing you need to remember is that evey component works together NOT JUST the turbo.
You are going to need a boost gauge, fuel pump, ported o2 housing, 2.5" DP, 2.5 test pipe and 3.0" cat back along with a manual boost controler set at no more than 16 psi on the stock injectors. This should be plenty for the street and have fun with some mustangs and such. If you cant get the exhaust right now at least get the fuel pump and K&N air filter. With the stock exhaust no more than 14 psi with that 16g just to be safe and not cook the turbo from not gettting enough hot exhaust out that will crack the exhaust housing and over heat the turbo itself.
After all that I would go with FIC 700s? fuel injectors, SAFC, FPR, then you can crank the boost up to 17-18 psi max on the stock side mount.
A nice FMIC and pipeing is next and then you can turn the boost up to 24 psi at the track on race fuel only!! Keep it at 17-18 psi on the street though
1- Boost gauge, manual boost contoler, Air filter, Exhaust, fuel pump.
2-Injetors, FPR , SAFC or some other fuel/engine mangaement,
3-Front mount intercooler,EGT gauge, 2100lb clutch, Dyno tuning.

would my money be better invested in getting the o2 elim. down pipe or a ported houseing? Can i port the stock 2g mani or is there an upgraded needed there too?

thanks for all the help

O2 eliminators flow better but cost more and are a pain in the ass to install or remove. If you want to have your stock 2G mani ported thats fine but you dont NEED it. I would have someone port it for you if you have no expereance with porting tools.

I thought about doing this same thing but then found out it wasn't my turbo going out. But what I learned was you can run a big16g with basically nothing as long as you run low boost. Run MAX 12 psi with just a mbc and boost gauge and you'll be fine. But grabbing fuel stuff, intake, and exhaust would free pretty huge hp numbers if you have the money.

theoretically you can just pop a 16G w/ install kit with NO aftermarket mods just be prepared to hit fuel cut, big turbo lag, the uncomfortable feeling that you dont know how much boost your are running, or what happening inside your motor. If you are on a SUPER TIGHT budget get a $50 MBC and $50 boost guage and just keep boost at 10-12psi

if you go the way the jdm engines go, should be good for like 270 hp, get a 16g and the yellow injectors or the equivalent...... the evo motor you see from japan runs a small 16g i think, and the yellow 550 injectors, just get fuel and boost equalled out and you can turn up boost with out woring about a safc, the jdm engine is the same 4g63 but with a small16g and the 500 or 550 cc injectors (cant remember wich, think 550's)besides the butterfly plenum wich doesnt really make that much differense.

those are 510s

please. you can run a 16g at over 20 psi with stock injectors. its been done, many times.

Yes, people get a little carried away with what you "need" to run X and Y turbo.

You don't "need" anything besides the install kit as long as you keep the boost down. You may want to get an intake, full exhaust, porting, and a fuel pump to start to see what the turbo can really do, but the car's not gonna explode if you don't.

What size fuel pump do you guys think one should upgrade to in order to order to safely boost a 16g (EVO III w/34mm) to about 14-15 psi? (w/3" Exhaust, K&N, MBC, Boost/EGT gauge 91oct.)

Newbie (to mods) here.

these people were running slightly rich while putting down these #'s. the stock injectors dont get the credit they deserve.

These people are slightly dumb.

Bare minimum to run a 16g would be a boost guage so you know if its creeping or not. Run wastegate boost and you will be fine with stock everything.

Now a fuel pump would probably be a smart investment. I ran a 190fuel pump, stock turbo back and my egts at 12psi were up there but always safe. After the exhaust they went down some and i could turn the boost up to around 15-16psi. This is with a bov, and intercooler piping as well.

After that 550's and a afc went in with a supra sidemount and i tuned the car for 20psi and ran pretty well. After that i went for a fmic b/c personally i didnt like the supra install or proformace i got from it. 20psi, pump gas, 550s, 190 pump, exhuast, fmic, intercooler pipe and bov, i almost made 300awhp ( think now i would) race gas and more boost i just cleared 300whp.

So if your on a budget, all you really need is a boost guage and do not get excited and turn the boost up b/c bad things will happen without suporting mods that will alllow you to run more boost.
