I have a 98 gsx and my motors out of the car getting ready to be dropped in. I noticed that i have lines running to my radiator and back out the other side and then into a big square black box on the drivers side under the headlight, which i think is the charcoal (sp) canister. Is that it? and since i have my egr removed, can i take out those lines that run all over the car(to the radiator and back on the firewall ect. If anyone has pics or could take pics of what i can remove then id appreciate it. Thanks

Yep, that's the charcoal canister. I took some pictures of the process of removing it which you can see here.

In my case I had to remove it to run my FMIC piping.

I just cut the two lines that came off of it and run back to the gas tank and went ahead and let them vent under the car, I have had no problems doing it this way.

quick question :cry:

my check engine light came on and i ran it over to auto zone to do a free diastic (typo)
on the ecu...

it was the egr flow valve malfuction p0400 sumthing like dat
do i really need to replace it or could i just block it off :confused:

You don't have to block the EGR off. Just leave the stock EGR valve in but disconnect the vac lines going to it. It acts the same as being blocked off when the lines are disconnected. I am running with no emission crap on my car and have zero issues with it.

ic so just disconnect the lines going to the egr??

it won't casue problems would it??

Your not gaining anything by disconnecting it. All an EGR valve does is recirculate exhaust gases back into the intake manifold to be re-ignited with the new air and fuel mix going into the cumbustion chamber. I would just leave it be. However if you want to disconnect it then just pull the lines going to it. I have never gotten a CEL from it.

Just leave the solenoids electrically connected and tuck them away. Then you will not get a CEL.

in my opinion and many others i know, blocking off emissions egr do provide gains or at least better efficiency, by disconecting the emissions and blocking off the egr valve, you keep the unburnt "very hot" gasses from being reentroduced back into the intake manifold, and as we all know the lower the temp of air, the more dencity, and less knock :thumb: ... now you dont have any hot ass unburnt gasses trying to be reburnt, and provide lower efficiency, :thumbdown
Dont expect much from doing this, most people dont even do it, my case just so happen that my egr sylanoid malfunctioned and made my car run like shit under boost, the egr/emissions are load baring and only open/kick in when you have it floored.
now to go about blocking off your egr valve, dont think that you need to order a machine made thick steel plate off ebay and wait a week to get it on your damn car, just pop off your little grenaid/cylinder ::with green top:: (which if your looking at your car fromthe front of the car, reach around the head where the battery sits and its to the right of the battery bolted on to the head with 2 bolts behind the engine), then take the valve off and use the part that bolts up to make an out line on a piece of sheetmetel,cut with tin snips and whalla instant block off plate, then take a screw driver and put it threw the boltholes while on the sheet metel, and pop the handle with a mallet to poke a nice big whole for the bolts to pop threw and bolt up, it might not seel the first time if metel is bent so, if engine cuts out or stumbles at WOT then pop it back off and recheck the seal., other than that, just pop off the vac sensors on the fire wall and plug the 4 vac valves on the throttle body, also there are lines and shit that run to the charcol can under you intake filter, throw all that shit out (keep in mind that with out charcol canister all cars act different, and can idle alil ruff, with out emiss. only seen a couple act that way though on 1gens)
good luck though bro
erik :dsm: :cool:

a cel is a check engine light by the way, and almost every dsm has them LOL,

Removing emissions will hurt your gas milage end of story.

maybe you should buy a civic bud....

if emissions gives me the slightest worse gas milage which i have never once noticed on my car and all my friends take all that shit of of any of their cars, and never got worst gas millage... any ways if that little 1/16th gallon i loose over the next month cuts out the hot 1000*-1600*F from being recurculated back into the intake manifold, well, im taken off those emissions and i suggest if any of that shit malfunctions just strip them off your car and block off the egr....

P.S. i know lots of people that dont run emissions that pass emissions with a test pipe and poping on their cat, shouldnt loose any gas milage as long as your a/f is where its spose to be, at least not anything you would notice...

dsm=gas hog/power
civic=gas saver/groceries OMG :shhh:

Poor misguided tuners you are. Yeah sure egr can be removed, the engine will run good enough without it. But before you go bypass something maybe you should learn about it first, and a message board is not a good place to learn it. go pick up a book, you might learn that egr actually increases economy, and it actually reduces combustion temperature, and prevents "pinging" or spark knock. Back before computer controlled cars became the norm, egr sucked, yes. But with all the sensors and fuel and spark control your car has, egr is good. A properly tuned egr system won't cause you any performance loss, and increase your fuel economy, so don't diss it unless you understand it.

Do you understand pumping efficiency? Nope, you don't.

EGR can help to increase your gas mileage by a noticable amount, if it is working properly. That's the truth, so deal with it.

It will only help to keep knock from occuring in conditions where the EGR is active, which also happens to be the same conditions where knock is least likely.
