My car is at a dsm shop in n.j. Just started it up today after refreshining block, rebuilt 1g head and 50 trim, etc........

It bachfired/chocked the first couple of cranks , but then they got it to start up fineand idle fine.. But , they say there is a very loud ( unusually loud ) noise frome valve train. Ok, the head has got 1g cams, not sure if they are turbo or non turbo. And i'm not sure if the head was turbo or non turbo either. I got the big bore lifters to stop this annoying rattling. I know this isn much to go on but here's my input and will appreciate anyone's input. I pick this car up friday evening so , would like some help/ideas to have the mechanic checkout. They were gonna pull the valve cover off and see whats going on , but i wont know anything about that till when we meet tommorrow so i can to the car home. ( not registered or insure yet)

#1 i didnt soak lifters in a bucket of oil before install.
#2 maybe its the 1g non turbo cams.
#3 a rocker fell off
#4 maybe the cam gears werent bolted to the cams properly so the timing is off

Please help, thanks guys. This car has been out of order since september i cant wait ...........

Sounds to me like your lifters need to build up pressure, I don't think it would be the cams or the cam gears mainly because they only go on one way, unless you got the fliped over backwards but that would be very noticeble.

Thanks for the reply. The noise actually went away as you said needed to to build pressure. But i cant get the car to idle for $%#@. I got 650's and the gm maft new version. The maft is set too 650's and thats it .You know anything about tunning with the maft.

You need a wide band or logger to help tune it. it is not always as easy as setting to 650's and go.

A SAFC is what you need to get it to Idle decent. You will also need a FPR its dumping alot of fuel with those 650s at idle. even more so if you have a HP pump already.

Wrong, I can get a good idle with 272's, 720's and no FPR or SAFC with the MAFT only and a wide band.

I have 650's, fpr, 255 lph pump,2.0 maft translator with 3 " sensor. The car was running yesterday but with very high idle, this morning it just wont start. The shop didnt give me the instructions they said its in the car. I just tried to find them they are not there.

I dont even want to get into the afc vs. maft , garbage in here.

I have the new version 2.0
This is for a 2g with 3' sensor. Car started and ran(like shit) yesterday and today wont even start.

Turbotalon92
thanks for the link but, i just tried its instructions and car still wont start. It'll crank but wont start.
i have all mode switches to off.
Aux =5 and base = 7 for 650's, I left all others too zero. I dont know wih one is idle.
the only thing that maybe wrong is that the purple wire is not connected to anything(i dunno).does anyone know what the 4 switch functions are on the bottom from left to right.??
This is a 2g maft translator ver. 2.0 for a 3" sensor.
any help will be very much apreciated, Thanks in advance.

C'mon guys, Anyone.? wre are all the maft tuners at ????????

Double check your timing marks.
Your Spark plugs might be fouled if you were running too rich.
Maybe unplug your battery and reset everything.
Just a few thoughts, hope everything turns out allright.

If you followed the instructions, then I would say the problem lies somewhere else. You just rebuilt, so there could be many other issues. Make sure all sensors are still plugged in, sometimes people forget the sensor that plugs into the bottom of the throttle body. Check your spark plugs as already suggested.

Mackzero and turbotalon, you guys are right on the money. I pulled my plugs ( bpr7es) this morning and they were soaked with black guey unburnt gasoline. So I went to parts store earlier today and got 2 sets of ngkbpr6es for $12 I had the 7's in there. Either dsmotorsports didnt tune the maft properly or my car doesnt like the 7's cuase they said they went threw 2 sets of bpr7es before they could get the car to start. Anyway I disconnected the battery , set the maft to my 650's and all else to zero/off on the modes I'm using 3' sensor, put the new plugs in (bpr6es) gave it the key and it started without any hesitation, then i just had to give it a couple of clicks on the idle. Runs good know.
so with these settings i attempted to give it some gas and brake torque to see my boopst guage cuase i thought it wasnt working, but it does. But, i'm seeing like 6 psi at about 3000 rpms thats pretty much as for as i could go. So , i that normal ??
6 psi at 3k rpms on a pte 5o trim ? oh and my hks ssq bov for some reason sounds like total sh!t.

Not sure about what boost you should see where, too many variables play into that. Your best troubleshooter will be driving it. You will see all of the problems surface then. Fix them as they arise and be sure to keep a keen eye on you vitals (oil press, water temp...). Keep an eye out for any leaks and drive it, tune it, run the 12's that should be no problem.
