I have an EVOIII B16g and I was wondering if anyone has ground off the nipple that holds the compressor housing in place and rotated the housing CC 180 degrees to make it a downflow turbo. This way it would be easier to hook up to a fmic with short route piping. It would probably mess with the wastegate actuator. Has anyone done it before??

For the amount of time and effort that would take, it would probly be easier to just get a j pipe that goes in front for a side-to-side FMIC (depending what ic u have).

I don't know about the EVO III turbo specifically, but it's been done a lot. It's called rotating the compressor housing. That's how places like SlowBoy make their "2G-16G" and similar units. Remember that you will also have to have some way of remounting the wastegate actuator, unless you're going external.

I did as mitsugsx95 suggested and made a J pipe to get on the driver side of the front to back engine support. The J pipe that comes with the 2g install kit would require the long route piping that goes from the passenger side across the intercooler and into the driver side endtank. I didn't want to remove the bumper support or positioning a pipe between the wastegate actuator, motor mount and fan shroud because that was too extensive for me and had too many risks. So instead I built this piece. The part consists of a 16G compressor housing flange and one of RRE's donuts (2" diameter pipe with a 2" radius) once the pipe straigtens out and shoots directly down b/w the two fans it flares out to 2.25" which is what I ran for the rest of the IC piping. It took a good while to fabricate due to the numerous bends and the tight confines of the engine bay, and though it might provide a little more resistance to flow then the normal J-pipe would I feel that reducing the need for extra IC bends and longer lengths of piping, along with being able to keep my bumper support, was a fair trade off. To tell you the truth I never even thought of rotating the compressor housing.

thanks for the ideas guys, i think i am going to do the j pipe thing miteclgst did because i really don't want to remount my wastegate and i definatley stick with short route piping
