I'm upgrading my turbo. I have an automatic and I'm between the big 16g and the big t28. I'm not sure which one I should get because since I'm an automatic I'm definitivly going to suffer until the turbo starts spooling and the b16g should probably take a while to do so. However, on dsmtimes.org you see a lot more of 16g powered vehicles doing better times than 28's and I'm definitivly going for bigger injectors, s-afc and a larger intercooler later. What turbo can I get the most out of ? This is definitivly my final upgrade as turbochargers go (this is a daily driven car).

I think the summary you'll receive from everyone here is that both turbos are great. They both should flow about the same and both should perform about the same. You cant really judge the performance of the Big28 because of dsmtimes.org only because it is a relatively new turbo that not many people have compared to the Big16g so obviously not as many people have had the opportunity to run well on this turbo.

My personal opinion on this is a 2nd gen should roll with a Big28 or some sort of T28 turbo and a 1st gen should roll with a Big16g only because in both situations it would be a direct boltup requiring no install kit.

Does the t28 come with an wastegate? Because if it doesnt theres no use for me getting one since mines broken.

You should go with a Big28. No questions asked hands down. Ok get this.

Have you ever installed a turbo? Probably not if you asking which one to get.

Get the Big 28. Get the Big28 Brand New. Install in 3 hours. Piece of cake.

Get 16G or simular TDO5. New $700 plus $200+ install kit for newbie's, plus 6 hours of PITA (pain in the a**).

Port out your O2 sensor housing the best you can, or newbie it and send it off the get done or something but I suggest learn as you go and port it the best you can.

The Big28 is a DIRECT bolt on and a absolute joy to boost. Pulls SOOO much harder than the T25 its not even funny.

Next up.......Clutch.

Expect to break parts as you upgrade..if your not breaking parts your not doing something right.

ohh and uhh order a "manifold to turbo bolt" and a O2 sensor housing bolt. Your nearly gaurenteed to break one or the other off in the T25 and wouldn't you rather have the spares and go try out your new found boost than order a bolt and wait two days.

Good tips.

I say Big28, you won't be unhappy.

if they are both close to performace then how can people say the big 16g is a bit of a laggy turbo and the BigT28 has just a little bit of lag. More lag should mean more top end b/c the exhaust side is bigger right?

All excellent tips, but remember, he has an A/T. No clutch required, just shift kit and end clutch upgrade. And maybe high stall torque converter.

Yeah, I would think he'd want something quick spooling, like the Big28, because of the A/T. If money were no object, I'd suggest the L1R (when available) or maybe even L2R from AGP, but I know he's on a budget.

I was reading a thread somewhere about the Big28 vs. the AGP T-28-- some seemed to think the AGP T-28 flowed more, with similar spool characteristics. Did I read that right? Anybody got any more info about that?

From what I read I thought both were the same...

You're talking about this thread right? After reading it some more, looks like you're probably right. There seems to be some debate on the accuracy of the presented information there. One thing to consider that's not disputed, though, is the group guy that's going on right now for the AGP T28-- I think it's $650 for the turbo, gasket, and porting. Info here .

i had just put a big 16g on a 92 talon auto car
not bad. NO balls from a dead stop when torque braking it.
once it gets moving, it scoots prettyg ood
granted my 90 will still eat it for lunch.

the 16g in question is not ported nor clipped. 14b housing
stock auto manifold.

i too am partial to the big 16g

In my opinion the AGP T28 and the FP B28 are the same thing, from what I hear FP won't reveal the info on their turbo but both say the turbo is capable of 360hp so I say both are the same #@%#@%#@%#@%ing #@%#@%#@%#@%, enough mistery.

And with them not revealing there info Agp is picking up all the $$$$ and selling more turbos =)

He ended up going with the AGP T28. We put it on last weekend-- it was at the same time fun and frustrating (and educational too). If we'd had all the right tools to start with, it would've been cake.

i have a question for turbo smart ppl. how does a t3/t4 turbo 50trim stage 3 turbine and .63 ar relates in size to a 20g?

At first it was ok, I never went past 11psi though. I'm having mad problems with the car right now, probably nothing to do with the turbo but there's white smoke coming from the exaust area, looks like it's by the end of the downpipe, but I don't know coz I can't even find my jack! Grr...

Also, it's worrying me that my stock oil gauge is not moving, it just barely moves and stays under the middle measurement (it used to go high when car was working properly) and when i hit bumps or brake hard, the red oil alert line in the car goes on but then disappears... I'm going to take it to doug's tomorrow and we're gonna have a look... this smoke reaks!

About the turbo... I haven't been able to experience it fully yet, I'm gonna let you know as soon as I fix the car. Hopefully soon... I don't think this is right but I'm boosting at around 2k rpms, especially if I am at higher gears the boost goes all the way to 10psi, but doesn't feel like it's making any difference until I go to 3k rpm... I had the same thing in the old turbo and have no idea wtf is going on.... my car sucks

i wanna know how this turns out i have a a/t too and im also looking into those turbos.
