OK, my 2.3L conversion is about done... all I need is a 1g CAS and my clutch. The question is what would be a good turbo to run on my 2.3L stroker? I've got 720cc injectors, which I hope not to sell. So.... what turbo on a 2.3L w/ 720's to spool under 3300rpm?

Well, the injector size does not denote when a turbo spools.

What are your goals with this engine?

I assume that since you want mega quick spool, your auto-x'ing?

Put it this way a 16g spools at around 2800 on a 2.0.

You can also get a mistu 20g to spin up 20psi at around 3000 on a 2.0

Since you have the 2.3 I would say that a GT ball-bearing .63 a/r 50 trim would be a great all around, quick spooling, high horsepower making turbo. If Drag-racing is more important, then get a bigger turbine.

Either way, you need to be more focused in the orientation of your goal.

There is no GT 50 trim wheel. You can get a dual BB 50 trim from innovative turbo but the price is about 2200 for the turbo.

Ya, I figured that was the response... In regards to teh injector sizing, I dont' want a turbo that requires bigger injectors... It's like saying if you have 550's, then a 16g is about all the turbo you'll want. I was thinking something like a 50 trim/green/FP 3052 (something in that area). This car is daily driven, used for drag racing, and auto X (in that order).

I would say a 50 trim or slightly larger. Maybe a 57trim?? A little off topic but what did you use to do your 2.3 project?? I am very seriously considering this instead of going with a 2.4L.

I got a 4g64 crank, eagle rods, and JE pistons. I found that 1g big rods will work fine too, but I wanted to be as safe as I could... I got them for 300 bucks new b/c a friend owns a business, so I figure you couldn't beat that. Total cost of the bottom end parts was about $1000.

What??? AGP sells a 50 trim as a kit and if you add the BB center section it would come to about 2200.00 and that is for the entire kit. Wish I had the money to shop like you.

That is because most of the 20g's being sold by the new school shops (AKA not BR) are Td06 turbine AND Td06 compressor.

The Buschur Racing 20g is a Tdo5 turbine/ Td06 Hybrid that is meant to spool as quick as possible. This was the remedy for a high-HP making, quick spooling street turbo before GT's were readily available.

Ask anyone at BR what the tdo5/td06 20g spools at, and they will tell you it will make 25psi at a hair over 3000rpm. :D

A FP3065 will spool at <4000 RPM on a 2.4L.

720's would be perfect for a FP3052 and the spool should be in the range you're looking for.

My 60-1 trim from AGP is hitting full boost around 35-3600.... hard to see exactly as the thing hauls ass at 20 PSI on 650's..... Great turbo for the 2.3L tho :D

I had a Sleeper 16g on my 2.3 before this last setup. Super quick spool all the way. Im now puttin a T66 from AGP on there with alot of other mods. I have yet to fire it up and tune it for the new setup tho.

Its a stroker, if you have not been in one you will not under stand. These engines make enough power unboosted to pull them self around. I was very impressed with mine for street driving.

Polk has had a T72 on there 2.4 liter and said that it was still to small. OMG

I would have to think that a 50 trim would be to small for a 2.3L engine. The 50 trim is a great pump gas turbo for the 2.0L's, so for the 2.3L I am sure you would want something bigger.

Full t4, FP3065, L3R, GT35R, something with a large turbine housing otherwise you are going to choke off the engine.

You're not going to "choke" off the motor any more than running a 16g on a 2.0L chokes it off.

A 50 trim will run out of airflow in the 22 psi range on a 7500-8000 rev limit. Plan accordingly. If you want to run alot of boost with race gas at the track, you need bigger.

GT40 based setups are just right, IMO. Similar response on the street as a 50 trim, and room left for the track.

What you guess at I know. Putting a 7cm exhaust housing on a 2.3 is stupid and will choke off the exhaust flow no matter how you slice it.

Lay it out on a compressor map then come back to me with your opinion.

What are your guys opinions/experiances with an FP-3052 on the 2.3's? Im going to have a stroker short block built soon because my 7-bolt is dieing. When the time (funds) comes to upgrade from my ported 14b, I dont want to go TOO big because I dont think Im ready for something such as a FP-3065.

The TURBINE housing will get choked out, look at a COMPRESSOR housing map and then make you look bad???

Mission accomplished. :thumb:

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say that 2/3's of the people here, have no experience in the matter.

....exiiiiiiiit
.........stage riiiiiight.

He is right, putting a TDO5H turbine wheel in a 7cm housing on a 2.3 liter is just not a good choice.

Im also going through with a 2.3L setup, but I might keep the stock turbo until it dies. Plus I dont want to be making TOO much power with my shitty tranny. I will also be replacing/upgrading/repairing the tranny (depends on budget) at the same time.

So for a low boost 300-320hp setup a evo3 on a 2.3 os bad? I know its "choking" the engine, but any turbo will choke the engine. If my goal is for like 18-20psi and 300-320 hp on race gas I dont think I will have too much trouble being as though Im going for autoX/roadracing so I need a super torquey setup with VERY fast spool(faster then Im spooling now). I mean wouldnt this be a good eqaution for loads of torque? I mean I not going to try and push 400+hp
