Ok, so lately I ve noticed that my car isnt pulling as hard, so I did an intake leak test. There is a leak, and it s at the throttle body. It s not at the gaskets, it s at the shaft that holds the TB valve. So I figure I ve got 3 choices. Either rebuild the TB, although I cant seem to find a rebuild kit for it, Buy a new one, which I really cant afford to do, or swap it with one I have laying around and hope it s good. Thats where the other problem comes in. I have two other TB's. One is from a 91 GS n/t, and Im not sure if it is the same as a turbo TB. The other I have is from a 90 turbo I think. The problem I see is, on the gs TB, theres 3 vaccuum nipples on the top of it, on the 90 theres only 2, and on mine(a 92) theres 4. So which will work? I would really like to get this fixed, so any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks
 
Yes its the TB seals its a very common problem on our cars. Mine went out and I tried to replace the seals yea dont try that at home. I complelty stripe out the head on the "Pened" bolts that hold the TB plate on the shaft so instead I opted and bought a 1G TB for $50 but You can find them cheaper in other placed I'm sure. I would just swap TB instead of doing the seals just my experience.

You can get seals that fit better than the Mach V seals from a place called Motion Industries. If you do a little searching the size seal you need is out there. I think it's a 10mm (id)x14mm(od)x3mm(thickness), but I could be wrong.

Use a dremel to shave the backs off the screws in the shaft before you try and take them out. When you put it back together use new screws and peen the backs of them. Place a metal rod in a vise and use that to support the head of the screw. Then wack the threaded side with a punch and a hammer (takes two people, one to hold it in place and one to wack).
 
Thanks for all the replys and tips. Now, will it make a huge difference ifI use the o ring method instead of buying the seals? I d really like to do this sunday, and I dont havethe extra money to order the seals. Thanks again.
 
sunflash you are correct id 10mm od 14mm and thk 3mm. One question where did you get replacement screws from?

2fasttsi I have replaced seals in 2 cars before and I have never managed to get the old seals out without damaging the casing enough to not use them again. What I mean is that when you use a screw driver to pry the old seals out you end up mashing the metal case, you have to reuse this metal case to do the o-ring method. :thumbdown
 
I tried to do this before.....OMG what a pain, i could not get the screws out of the tb plate, i didnt try using a dremel on the back of them tho. I was literally doing a pushup with both hands on the screwdriver and trying to turn this screw out, i gave up before i stripped the screw completely.

I got them from the Misc nuts and bolts bin at the dealership I work for. If they don't thread well just run a matching tap through the shaft to clean it up. Doesn't really matter how well it threads, the peen on the back is what keeps them in, just so long as you can get the screw all the way through and seated flush.
