a accessory belt making your timing jump. thats what happened to my engine. it has been down since oct and i finally have the engine out. took off the lower timing cover and found that my a/c accessory belt was inbetween my crank gear and timing belt. so anyways how common is this?

i think one of to things hapened some thing happened with the tensioner assembly or the belt streched over time and when you wher winding it up it thru the belt off the pully. older cars(ie small block chevys and stuff) are known to throw belts in higher rpms so its not unheard of.

That is crazy. But I guess it happens.

My old 92 TSI did the same thing. A/C compressor belt snapped.....when it did it somehow didn't tear all the way across and then got whipped around a few times and ended up sticking through the timing belt cover behind the Harmonic Balancer causing the crank to lose " 5 teeth" while all the other marks lined up.

Know what that means???

8 bent intake valves and 8 eyebrowed pistons.

Very costly for the price of the belt and the time to change it.

Lesson learned...though.

It happened to me also. The a/c belt broke, slipped under the timing belt cover, and wound itself around the crank sproket. Needless to say, I just bought a new engine ;)

Had the same thing happen to me on my 90 AWD (other car)... happened out of nowhere... cost me a pretty penny to get some new tensioners, etc, but luckily no bent valves or internal damage was done to the engine. Glad to here that I'm not alone... even though it kinda sux!

yea the harmonic balancer broke on my car... when it was replaced with all the accessory belts the timing belt skipped a tooth, I wonder how that happened
