50 trim, exhaust, etc installed - not terribly happy

NA,
I feel that people who are looking to upgrade should be informed of some realities when it comes to buying/installing certain products on their DSM's. Here is a breakdown of what I have recently installed and what technical problems I ran into:

AGP RS49: - I had to replace both radiator fans with slim ones, $220 later and nobody
told me about this ahead of time.
- AGP states that this turbo will not boost creep with internal setup, well
guess what, I have boost creep to 20psi with a tubular internal o2 housing.
- Because of boost creep and a low psi actuator, I am now looking for an
electronic boost controller since my manual HKS controller will not cut it
anymore for boost response. Another $300. :|

RNR 3" exhaust: - I thought I was getting a good deal since they were on sale, however
IT CAME WITH NO EXHAUST CLAMPS!!!! FYI when someone buys a full
exhaust kit it is expected that the clamps would be included. Maybe I
didn't buy it on sale and they just took the price of the clamps out.
- The tip was bent down when I got it, I had to unbend it - minor detail.

Dejon hard intake pipe: - These pipes do not come with a lip on the turbo end, they will
blow off very easily. I had to grind off the powdercoat and weld
a bead to keep the thing from falling apart!

These oversights/difficulties should be properly communicated and/or fixed. Maybe it's just me, but I do not think that customers should get something that they aren't expecting.

Ahhh the Joy's of modding...

PS I have the RNR Exhaust and it doesn't come with clamps becuase you don't need them...the pipes slip togther nice and tight and there not gonna go anywhere.

The famous RnR exhaust.. I used NAPA SS band clamps on the slip fits to ensure they wouldn't leak exhaust.. The U shaped ones suck because they can potentially crush the pipe...

Intake pipes don't need beads since they don't have to hold pressure. Intakes are under a slight vacuum. But I guess it's good to know yours can handle an enormous backfire without coming off :) The way your install is going, you just might need it :) !

It wouldn't let me just post this, so
Blah blah blah. Since when is there a minimum post length?

That's fairly standard practive with most upgrade turbos.

Maybe they didn't lie to you. Maybe the turbo won't creep, and you just have something that is broken, or set up wrong.

Is the actuator rod adjustable? Is it adjusted properly? Is your MBC working properly? Have you tried running a line right from the manifold to the WGA?

That's just ###, I would complain about it (to them, not us).

You just ruined a good intake pipe. There is zero pressure in that coupler, so there is no need for a bead.

Ahhh yes,
I will comment on the dejon intake pipe since i OWN one,(do you actually own one?)..I bought a 3 inch dejon pipe and I would'nt have mind so much that there was'nt a bead on the lip but the bottom of the tube does'nt go in the coupler far enough to actually get a good firm squeeze on the pipe..You are right, there is no pressure in that pipe but engine vibration is enough to scare you that it will fall off and lay there without ever noticing it until you pop your hood..I have a 50 trim too which I love and I would be really pissed if the pipe fell off and I sucked a hose or a wire into the compressor wheel or road debris, not to mention bugs..It would be soo bad if they made the bottom part of the tube on the intake alittle longer..

exactly what ^^ he said , word for word x2.

This is not true, I've had 3 different intake pipes (1g maf, 2gmaf and a different 2g maf pipe) from Dejon and each one fell out after a few minutes of driving. It may not make sense, but it happens. It has nothing to do with installation, the design needs to include a lip.

By the way, the 50 trim has some AWESOME pull when the boost actually gets near 20psi, I just have no mid-range boost until I get a boost controller. Also, there is nothing set up wrong on my car, I have had the car for 6 years now and have gone through the upgrade process time and time again. I have tried adjusting the wastegate arm with very little success. Also, I do not want an external wastegate for a daily driver.

And for those of you who don't use exhaust clamps, what world have you been living in?

I have a dejon intake pipe on my 50 trim and it doesn't fall off. However, I installed a different (longer) coupler as the one it came with was too short and exhibited the same problem of falling off through engine vibration. With the longer coupler, no more problems. No lip required.

Exactly what need's to be done since the coupler that comes with the kit is'nt long enough..But,utilizing the coupler with the kit will get you no where..This is what I was reffering to.. :)

I've had a Dejon intake pipe on my car for 2.5 years, and it's never fallen off. It doesn't have a bead either. Maybe it's because the air filter and MAF are bolted down in the stock location.

Why is 20psi a problem, I mean really why the hell would you want to run 16psi? Gas mileage? Well there is a gas pedal to control that.
I don't have any customers with 50 trims running lower than 20psi on pump, actually most are running a little over 22psi.

In general if it's larger than a 16G and has a internal wastegate don't count on running less than 18psi ever.

I have a scm50 from pte and I can run 12-13 psi if I want to. My t25 died so i bought the 50 trim first. Of corse I got all the rest of the supporting mods but the fmic was last So I pimped it at 12psi for a few weeks. It now runs 21psi daily :) This is also with the un cut housing fwiw. I would call agp abou the creep and see what they say.
