i am doing a full rebuild on a 94 tsi engine and putting it in to a 90 gsx. the cylenders are bored 20 over and now i need to buy pistons. i cant decide if i should get some weiscos that are at buschur racing.com for $325 or go with some cheep aftermarket pistons from the local parts store, the cheep ones are $330 for a whole rebuild kit including pistons. i am on a pretty tight budget so im leaning in the direction of the cheep pistons, the brand name is Rock by the way, but i am concerned that they might not hold up to the heat of a turbocarged engine. and are the weiscos a waste if i were to use the stock rods?
any input would be great. :thumb:

save your money and wait till you can afford a rods and pistons.... that way you wont shell out more later if you decide to boost the hell out of the car

so i shouldnt get pistons without rods? my main concern is just that the cheep ones wont hold up to the heat. i didnt know that you can use 6 bolt rods in a 7bolt engine. so when you guys say jse 95 pistons you mean factory 95 pistons or just any 95 pistons like the cheep ones

get them from roadraceengineering.com .. they are like $200 for the set and they are strong enough. While you are in there upgrade to the 1g big rods.

I don't know why everyoner is telling you to buy 2g pistons.

To make everything work on your car you will spend more on the 2g pistons, after rings and machining they arent that cheap.

Go with the wiesco's from buschur, that is a damn good price and they are good pistons.

any piston will need rings. The pistons don't have to be machined to fit ... the rods will. It's not very expensive. 1g rods and 2g pistons is the cheapest good combo .. that's why everyone is saying to do that.

I think I had $400-$500 tighted up in my 2G pistons/1G rods combo after the machine work. So not much different from aftermarket stuff. But having a engine that doesn't piston slap is priceless :thumb:

ya, piston slap is another concern that i have with the forged pistons. but i have a 7 bolt so i don't have the big rods and 2g pistons raise the compresion quite a bit. i can get some oem pistons from the local dealer for $165 but mitsu no longer makes rings, acording to them, so i have to fing some rings if i wanted to go that rout.

man if anybody here has over a buck fifty into rods and pistons, for 1g rods and 2 g pistons your getting ripped, already have 1g rods on my 90 gsx and am having them machined right now to go with the 2 g pistons. the pistons were under 60 bucks shipped via ebay and the machine work is costing me 40 bucks, unless you count rings, but rings are needed either way, but in all i got my rod and piston setup for 100 bucks, not bad at all!!

$40 for machine work? I wouldn't trust that considering the rods needs to be recondition, shaved and bored.

if your into building enough to knwo people around your town,,,,good work isnt that hard to find, 40 bucks is a deal yes, by the way a CAD CNC machine does wonders and is VERY close on tolerances, also having him do my flywheel, having my block work done by another place where im getting a deal since all my friends building the big cars go there, but makeing friends in the right places can do wonders! :thumb:

If your using cad/cam to do a flywheel or bore out a rod there is something wrong with you. That is just plain retarted.

Second, you can't compare used 2g pistons with a brand new set of wiesco pistons.

When you buy 2g pistons they do not come with rings. So add that and machine work into the price and they just arent that much cheaper than the wiesco's.

I think I have seen eagle rods for 350 and wiesco pistons for 335.

So your looking at less than 700 dollars and they will handle 300hp more than the stock stuff.

The only complaints people have with piston slap is from JE pistons with loose clerance. As far as I know the wiesco's don't have this problem.

they MAY handle 150 hp more. 1g rods and 2g pistons are rated up to 450 whp. Eagle rods are good for 600 I've head. That's only 150 more. Besides .. if he's on a budget he's not looking to make 600 whp.

where did you find the wiseco pistons for 335? Im looking for them and can only find forged ones as cheap as 450.

Standard good price on Wiseco's during the past usually hovered around $400 with rings. Buschur's listing doesn't say with rings. If they're not included, I'd look elsewhere.

If you can upgrade engine parts, great, but remember the plain ol' stock stuff will hold 400+ horsepower just fine.

JE pistons suck. Stay away. Those Rock pistons are unknown. Stay away.
