I know the $hitty stock smic is really ineffecient but I was looking to turn up the boost from 15ish psi to about 18-20 on pump gas with my AFC and 660cc ND's for the winter.. you think Id be ok doing this?

no.... stock SMIC cannot cool the air charge enough, you'd detonate like mad.

You either need water/alchy/propane injection or a FMIC to run high boost on pump gas.

Well that helps. I didnt know if there was anyone doing that out of a big16 or not. I appreciate your help man. Well I had ordered a FMIC and it was all busted up from shipping so I sent it back.. and Im in need for a cheaper alternative. I cant shell out 1000 bucks for a fmic for my DSM right now as I have some cool #@%#@%#@%#@% coming for my Honda (PT66.. can you say... fawkin huge turbo?) do you know of any good deals on a decent FMIC for my supporting mods..? GBs or specials etc?
Thanks Black!

I agree. I ran 18psi on my stock sidemount with 93 octane for almost a year. I now have the MKIV IC.

Same here except I'm running 19psi on my FP Big28. I'm not always hammering down on the throttle, only when needed. It seems to help keep the ic from heat soaking so quickly. With colder outside temps "FALL" that should help also.

Im at 14-15 psi.. it says 12 but if I am in 4th and I downshift and hammer it in 3rd it goes up to 15 or so. I dont know if this is my boost gauge or wtf is going on. Did you all feel a big difference between 14-15 and 18-20? Again this is out of a big 16.
Thanks!

Of course you'll see a difference ecspecially on a 16g which can push 18psi without loosing it's efficiency. A general rule of thumb is every lb of boost is worth about 7-10hp at the crank.

I know I would feel a difference upping the boost with a FMIC but I didnt know if the gains would be felt as much running the factory smic due to heat soak.

It made a difference in my car with the stock IC and it feels even better with less knock on my Supra IC. Your really only gonna heatsoak the stock IC if you do run after run without cooling down or drive hard into the boost on the road for extended periods. Other than that your good. The main problem with the stock IC is it's inability to flow sufficient CFM and pressure loss because of that and it's tiny inlet and outlet.
