hey yall, Whats the MAX rpm for Stock internals????? given that it tuned for fuel so theres no fuel cut, or LEaning out.

i've read about people going upwards of 8k on stock almost everything... why bother? the only turbos efficient up there are the not-so-street-friendly ones. not only that, but your tranny probably won't cooperate up there either

I am currently taking stock internals up to 8k. Plan to raise it as well as it still seems to be making or @ least holdin power to there. Looking to raise to 8500 just to have the convience of it. I got a street friendly SCM61.

I'm with Nick,

I have a completely stock 2G head and 7 bolt:

I have:
HKS 264/272
2G Magnus SMI
ARP headstuds

I reved my HRC S20G up to 8K daily. (ie:daily driver)

But the thing is Smaller turbo's are worthless at higher RPMS. You can only benifit from Reving higher, if you have a larger turbo.

But just because you have a larger turbo doesn't mean it isn't as street friendly. Why? We raise the Rev Limiter to compensate for the slower spoolup.

From what I have personally seen 8K is as high as you want to go if you want it to be reliable. Above that you are starting to push the limits.

Personally I'm thinking I might change mine to 8250 with the larger turbo I'm putting on.

my question is how long are guys staying at 8k rpm. i have spun bearing with rpms like that. plus i hope you are using synthetic oil when you are doing that stuff

ok just checking with the rpm thing cuz i have seen videos on kazaa of people holding the rpms way up there for while. i would still be cautious with 8krpm. when it comes to synthetic vs normal stuff your everyday driver won't know the difference but when it comes to the heat ranges and stability under heavy loads there is no comparison, at high rpms like that you are going to generate some heat and the synthetic will handle it better.

Dont forget that higher RPMs put A LOT of stress on the transmission. My tranny went out on a 1st to 2nd shift at 7.5k. One shift and my transmission was shot. Because of this Ive decided to keep the rev limiter at 7.5k even though the 20g pulls well through 7k. I never rev past 7k now, but if you want to push it to 8.5k dont hammer the transmission into gear.

I herd actualy, If you shift to fast from like 8K, and not let the trans catch up it can damage it. like for instance, in 1st. you rev up to 8K but you dont shift RIGHT when you hit 8k, you let it hit the Rev Limiter a couple times, then into 2nd. Something about the gears spining up or something????

Yeah, thats what happened to me. I shifted at 7.5k and hammered it into 2nd. The tranny speed was much higher than the engine speed so the syncros and hub/slider for 2nd gear took A LOT of load. When I opened the transmission aferwords the hub/slider teeth wore f@cked up. The syncro for 2nd couldnt match the engine/transmission speeds at that high of RPMs. Now I have double syncro 2nd gear from TRE, but I have decided not to temp fate...

i have to agree very much with not going above 7krpm thats what i do usually i will stick around 6500 to be on the safe side. shifting out of first at 8k rpms thats nuts. 1st gear winds out pretty face but 8k jesus. are you even accelerating anywhere at 8k in 1st gear
