Tial external wastegate......flutter

When i let off the gas, even at like really low boost, it sounds like my wastegate is fluttering, kind of like it does when i hit full boost, just not as loud...........is that normal..............my wategate spring is set at 15psi, but it still flutters when i let off the gas???

Compressor surge sounds like cha cha cha. sort of like what an HKS blow off valve sounds like at a lower pitch. If your getting a fluttering sounds it's probablly compressor surge. The sound changes with the amount of boost and the pipes you run..

i would say it is the bov bacuase it happened when you let off the throttle. The wastegate opens when you hit full boost. I also had a RFL that would flutter at low boost. It was fairly loud too.

The wastegate does open when the boost in the pipes is above 15 psi, which can happen when you let of the gas suddenly because the cylinders wont be accepting the pressure the turbo is producing, and the wastegate will bypass the turbo to decrease the psi. if it didnt the bov would make the psshhhh noise for longer then the second you hear it. You wont see it go above 15 +/-1 because the turbo cant create boost if the exhaust isnt spinning the turbo, so the wastegate opens immediately to release the pressure along with the bov, not allowing the boost gauge tap to see that pressure. Clearly that noise is the wastegate, i know from hearing the noise while being in the car and outside of the car.

thanks......i belive it is the wastegate too, the car was cold.....i took it around the block real quick and hit 3 or 4 pounds of boost and let off, it made the noise again.,......so to check if it was the wategate i felt the dumptube, and sure enough it was hot from the exhaust gas passing through
