at rally new york this weekend, i was glancing at a couple of talons that were running during scrutinnering ( i was working time control). A bunch had their alternator wrapped up in heat shileding material because of excess heat from the manifold.

I was thinking of just going to a salvage yard and buying a heat shield like the one over our exhaust manifiold and just bending it and cutting it to shape the alternator and making my own brackets? anyone done this before?

edit: Also, are there any benifits between the two? is one better than the other?

Thanks alot for the help. I'll post pics of the car once its ready. Its pretty bare now, no seats even!

I've been thinking about it too. $120+ for an alternator hurts mt wallet.

i figured it would be a good idea. I'm just trying to see if there are any advantages between the two.

You don't even need to be concerned with "shielding" so much as deflecting. Polish the side facing the heat, paint the side you're trying to protect flat black. Just a "flap" between the exhaust and the alternator will help, although be advised the usual death of DSM alternators seems to be power steering fluid or simple age.
