I am pondering the idea of moving the factory gas tank in my 2G GS-T up about 3 inches so that i can run the exhaust straight to the back of the car. This would eliminate approximately 2.5 ft of piping from the overall length and straighten the whole thing out to essentially 2 90 degree bends and one 45ish degree bend. I would just go with a fuel cell, however this will still be a street car for a while and i do not want to affect the weight balance that drastically. I know that moving the tank up will raise the center of gravity but I can cope with that and soon i will be able to tune the suspension to comphensate somewhat. Anyway I am looking for advise from people who have expierience with the gas tanks on GS-T's, such as how the tank is fastened to the body and how much I will have to cut out of the back seat area. I also need to know if there are any braces in that area so I can decide where to weld new ones when I am through moving the tank. I am not content on keeping the back seat since i don't have it in there anyway, i will just cover what I cut out with sheet metal and carpet it to make it look more stock appearing.

One more thing, I appreciate all comments, but I really dont care to hear "its not worth the trouble," and "this sounds like a waste of time." I could care less whether or not you feel so, I am ONLY looking for advise. Thank you.

P.S. If I do decide to undertake this procedure I will be sure to take plenty of pics and make a write up.

I would actually look to see if you can use a GSX exhaust if you want a straighter exhaust. That will more than likely be a better option for you. You wont have to move your tank which probably WILL be a PITA. But if you want to move your tank then look at Extreme's site and see if they have anything for you. They are the only company that I'm aware of so far that offers a sumped tank, which might help you out in the long run.

Thanks for the advise. If i do this i wouldn't use a GS-X exhaust, I would build a custom one. However I am going to look at a GS-X gas tank next time I see a friend of mine; it should have a channel cut out for the driveshaft and it may bolt into the GS-T.

Yeah, I was curious if the GSX tank would bolt right up to a GST- keep up posted :D
