Wires on Greddy EGT Probe

Okay, there are 2 wires obviously on the proble ..one positive and one negative. The wire colors are red and white. I was assuming that red was positive and white was negative. I know I could get a volt meter and check, but I don't have one of those handy atm. Does anyone know if red is positive because that's how I have it hooked up to my Omega probe and its acting funny. The needle is all over the place. Would it be kill the gauge if I wired it backwards?
