Spun a rod bearing... now a 2.3L?

Hello fellas. Last night I had the unfortunate happening of spinning a rod bearing. What exactly do I need to do to fix this? If it includes much work on the crank I was thinking of maybe doing a 2.3L stroker crank w/ the other stuff...

The question is, I guess... what other stuff do I need to make my engine a 2.3L stroker? I searched for 2 hours last night, but all I came up with were threads that got off topic and someone saying to look in another thread. Will my 2g head still work, or do I need a 1g head? Will my 7bolt block be reusable or will I need a 6bolt one? Does anyone have a parts list or a write-up on doing a 2.3L?

You can buy a 2.3L stroker kit which will include the crank, bearings, rods and pistons. But I really wouldnt do this with a 7bolt block, it will 90% chance crankwalk.

Find a good 6 bolt longblock and rebuild it stock or 2.3L stroker. Use the 1g head also.

that's what I was thinking, but I'm on the tightest of tight budgets right now... I bought a bike on saturday... so I've got very little cashflow right now. Would it be possible to just do a 6-bolt bottom w/ the 2g head? or the 6-bolt stroker bottom w/ the 2g head? would the 2g tranny bolt up still? I believe I'd need a new flywheel... would I need a different clutch too?

I know someone's gunna come in here and say "why not get a 1g head... it flows 10,000,000,000,000,000x better..." WHY? Because I have no money right now.

Yes you can use your 2g head on the 6 bolt block. Make sure you use 6 bolt ARP head studs tho, they will fit tight through the head, but will go through.

You will need a 6 bolt flywheel, I actually have one if you need.

One problem I just thought of, in order to use a 6 bolt block you need a 1g CAS. The 95-96 head will not let you botl up a 1g CAS. So I guess you are just gonna have to find a good 6 bolt longblock (with head). You could just throw that in there with no rebuild, cheaper. Then maybe rebuild it later down the road when cash allows.
You dotn need a different clutch and the tranny will bolt up.

I don't think they even make a 2.3L kit for the 7bolt anyway. You'd have to do your own research to get it to work (I can't really comment on how easy/hard it would be). Even if money is tight, I would just get a 6bolt longblock and save yourself the aggrivation...

I e-mailed Forced Performance and they do offer 4G64 cranks for both 6 and 7 bolt motors.

Just get a six bolt short block. Lots of people run the 2g head with the 6 bolt block. Unitll you are really flowing a lot of air, the 2g head will do fine. You have to modify the motor mount by the timing cover., and wire in a 1g cas.

If you are going to stroke the 7bolt, take out the oil squirters.......I've never heard of someone getting crankwalk with them removed.

But a 1g CAS will not bolt right onto a 95-96 2g head, so he might as well get a 6 bolt longblock.

Here is how to put a 1g CAS on 95-96 head, PITA: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/1gcasin2g.htm

98TsiAWD, I was reading your thread about the 4g64 7-bolt 2.4L stroker... If I could just find one of those 94-98 galant gs 4g64 bottom ends, cam sprockets, head gasket, fasteners, and timing belt... is there anything else I'd need to use to make it work?

That doesn't show any more work regardless of year. Are you refering to the wiring? That will be necessary if you have the head or not.

I am very tempted to do a 7 bolt 4g64 but the parts aren't any cheaper than the 6 bolt stuff and it really isn't any more difficult to do the 6 bolt. 90% of the work of putting a 1g in a 2g is for the head. You can do the block alone and it is easier. You will have to have the the holes in the head enlarged for the larger 1g head studs but that is not that critical as they are not aligned to the block by the studs. You have to grind the mount by the tensioner side jsut as you would have to for a 1g long block, and wire in a 1g cas. Other than enlarging the bolt holes for the head studs that should be all. For the little bit of extra work it requires to go 6 bolt and keep the 2g head, I think it is definately worth the extra reassurance from avoiding cw.
