Does anyone think this is a good idea? I saw a kit that came with pistons, piston rings, new gasket set, main bearings, rod bearings, and intermediate bearings for $459, and can be ordered with a new oil and water pump for like an aditional $120 apiece or somewhere in that nieghborhood. do you guys think this would be a good way to go....or should I get a newer engine and work with it?

Nothing seems to be wrong with mine so far (knocks on wood...LOL) Turbo spools great, but seems a little too loud for comfort. Timing belt looks good (no cracks, or fading or anything.) Cams look nice and smooth. Car idles well and accellerates well. I don't know, can't decide.

sure, a rebuild is always good, but I would get thicker rods, balance and knife-edge the C.shaft, Upgrade the cams, valves (1mm; requires machine work), and springs. 8.5:1 pistons. And while you got the engine out may as well get a lightened flywheel and upgrade the clutch (ACT2600 or ACT2900) and since you got the manie's off may as well port them better yet find yourself a 95+ and port that one. Shot by then you got one hard core engine. So just slap on a 20g turbo, 620cc or 750cc injectors, a Cosmo fuel pump, fuel regulator. Need a High flow intake and exhaust now, 3 in. both ways. Then you might want to a huge FMIC, IC pipes, and performance BOV, oh don't forget the wastegate have a flange made on the 95+ manifold. And since you got all that you can ditch the MAS in favor of a AFC and the HKS VPC, tune and test that baby on a dyno, with the aid of your O2 gauge and EGT gauge need the boost Gauge too, and for safe keeping a Oil pressure gauge.Sh*t now you got low 11's and if your real good 10's baby!!!!!

Whoa.....that went over board. Just do the rebuild for now!

Dont rebuild until your car forces you to. By too loud do you mean you have noisy lifters? That is a fairly easy fix. When it comes time for a rebuild do it right and expect to spend around 1500 for a very solid 1g rod 2g piston motor. When the time does come you can order all your parts through Conecelli they have excellent pricing on all Mitsu parts.

The turbo whistle.... I've never driven a turbo'd car other than a volvo moving truck. But it seems to me that I shouldn't really be able to hear it spool on a completely stock car. But it isn't loud or anything, only when there's walls or houses next to me. Beautiful sound though :D

So you think I should do a few light bolt ons...like mbc and intake/exhaust stuff and a few others anyway just like it is. I know mitsubishis have a great name as far as going the distance, but I'm just not sure about if it's been modded, and I also like to accelerate quickly all the time (used to drive a s/c'd car,) but I never really push it (the eclipse) up to 6000 rpms or more.

Yeah i would definately wait till the motor finally went. Spend your money making it as fast as you can with out blowing it, then wait till it blows, then do the rebuild. Hows that? :)
