I've got a set of super old school Skunk works Racing Project (Skunk2) cam gears and am debating with how to install them properly. I've done enough timing belts to know the tips and tricks, but it seems as if the allignment with these gears is never dead on.
I've found by searching on tons of boards that the marks at one point in time were not accurate, and that they had to be installed the "honda way," which I've never done myself.
Can somebody that has used these much older gears give me a few pointers. If I line up the cam gears with the dowel straight up and down to the motor, the marks appear off on the gears themselves. My gears were also probably tainted by the previuos owner and he etched his own marks on them. If I line up the marks and not so much the dowels with the crank, the dowels no longer look dead on with the head.
Both of these gears are zeroed out and on a set of HKS 272's in case that makes any difference.
