I installed a FMIC on my car and the lower ic pipe that I got does not fit with my new turbo. Can I make one out of ABS and drive around until I can have a local performance shop make one for me? Is it going to be bad on the car? If so, please explain. Thanks

you can make one out of abs and beat the hell out of the car if you want. a pipe is a pipe.

just go to depot and get some piping until you get yours in... no harm (just remember its plastic, and plastic + lots of heat = no no) :thumb:

YOu can temporarily go with Plastic ABS, but this setup right after the turbo is gonna get real hot, so if you choose to go this way, just try to get better piping as soon as you can... maybe Dejon tool have what you want at a low price...

What turbo you have?

You can do it. It will look ghetto as hell. but it can be done

what turbo are you running [/B]

PTE 50 trim, FMIC, and supporting mods in my profile. I wouldn't drive it hard at all though. I would just use it long enough till the local performance shop can make me a new pipe. Seems to me it would blow off quickly (quess it is the way I made it). I am just going to use it to get me to the shop and back. The FMIC should cool it down a bit. Thanks

I am having to run ABS on my FMIC from the FMIC to the UICP. It looks ghetto, and is a lot bigger than metal pipe. Also where it connects to what ever you are connecting the OSD(out side diamter), is a lot larger than the FMIC, or Jpipe. IE if you are using 2.5" ABS(by the way I would use PVC higher temp), the OSD is half inch larger so you are looking at 3" coupler, and the FMIC is like 2.25 or 2.5" that means you have to tighten the coupler down a lot, and that can cause ripples in the coupler and boost leaks.

I used exhaust pipe(16g), and mandril bent 90 for the bends. You can cut "pies" out of the pipe and weld to make any angles that you want. I came out with my lower IC pipe for $20, and I am fabricating the stretch that I made out of ABS for about $30. If you know a welder you can make the pipe for a heck of a lot cheaper than paying an exhaust shop/performance shop. By the way if you use a performance shop, or exhaust shop make sure that they use MANDRIL, that is where the ISD doesn't change when the make the bends. Most exhaust shops use crush benders, and the ISD changes when the make bends.
