When i usually go to the track i just take out the headlight lens assembly and the turn signal housing.

RDRKT on the pic u have it looks like u have the whole headlight assembly removed but i cant tell to be 100% sure.

What would u or other 1g pop up racers suggest doing.

In that pic the whole assembly was out it saves weight on top of letting a lot more cold air hit the filter. The previous owner did that because he was going balls out competing at IDRC. I think the rules have changed and they don’t allow you to do that anymore. Personally I don’t bother. I have raced a bunch on pump gas cause I am trying to see what the car will do in real life. Maybe if you were looking for that last tenth or two in your setup it would be a good idea.

is it really worth the hassle though?? i saw a 2g dsm at the track without the right headlight. and in fact my right headlight has the yellow foggy look so i wouldnt mind taking it out for track running.

but does it really help? i mean is it really worth all the hassle of taking it out?!?!? (for a 2g i mean)

-I made a new lid out of perforated sheet metal, or you can have the body shop punch some vents on it, kind of like the vent on the rear 1/4 panel by the rear tire.

So does anyone know if it's worth the hassle for stock 1G to do this at the track? And does anyone have info on how to do it for a 1G? Thanks, Jake.

its up to you, like rdrkt said, previous owner had done it for all out racing. you would'nt notice it in the seat of the pants dyno.

On my 90 Laser I put the light halfway up, removed the rubber hood seal behind the headlight, and turned the hood height adjuster up so that more air gets in between the back edge of the light cover and the hood. It's quick and easy to put it all back when it rains.
