Can I use anything to substitute for the gasket between the turbo and header? I have heard some people use thin sheet of copper. Any ideas? I don't want to spend $30 for a "Water Jet Cut 7cm stainless steel turbine inlet gaskets", and most of the other places want $20 plus as well.

Will it hurt/degrade anything by using a cheaper substitute with exhaust gaskets? Going by cheaper methods in other areas is what you pay for, but I am thinking as long as it creats a seal between the turbo and manifold I should be ok.

By the way isn't it really annoying when you buy a turbo/manifold or anything for that matter, that it doesn't include gaskets and bolts, that is unless you choose to by the "2g Install Kit." GRRR at any point.

Ya cheaper solution may seal.

But for how long? a week, 2days, I don't suggest skimping on gaskets.

You can buy teh gasket maker, it comes in a tube and is teh jdm most wanted

I think that would burn up on seeing 1400+ degrees.

yeah just go to the dealership and buy one they cant be that much do half ass on gaskets

use high-temp silicon seal. My friends 69 camaro but a new intake manifold but the gasket was cracked already. His dad told him to use silicon sealer and it worked fine. Also i say them use it on Horsepower TV too:dsm:

Thank you for all the inputs. I ended up going with a used gasket from my old turbo setup(the stock t25). I think it will work, there is no cracks and its in ok shape, just a little dust on it...

By the way for those of you that may have this question in the future Napa sells a sheet of compressed something that has metal in it that you can custom make any exhaust gasket. I think its the same material that you see on our stock exhaust systems. It runs like $10 for 10"x10"

yea but i dont think silicone sealent will stand up the high exhaust temps but i guess you could try if you really wanted

You can use high temp gasket maker if you want. It's copper colored and works upto 700" F or something like that. Remember if it's not directly in the stream of the exhaust it's much cooler than your egt. 700* F is plenty for exhaust sealer. I use it between my manifold and turbo, turbo and down pipe and wastegate and dump tube. I use only a gasket on the head thats it. It has been there for a year now and never leaks.

I use the stuff to seal the rest of my exhaust too in all the connections. I have no gaskets in anything to be honest. When I take it appart I just clean off the gasket maker and replace it. I find that the T3 and wastegate gaskets tend to blow out after a little while so I just don't use them anymore.
