I was thinking guys, since my friend has a spare 14b with 175k miles on it, we were thinking of rebuilding it ad giving it some port work. But, this would also be a project, I'm theorizing that It would be able to open up the inducer and exducer inlet/outlet right? so a bigger 16g compressor wheel can be fitted into it? along with a 16 turbine? I think this would work in theory, I mean the forced performance secret 16g uses like a 20g compressor in it so I dont see why this wouldnt work?

I have actually been doing some research on this specific topic. I did find that most people will just avoid the hassle and purchase a whole new turbo, but I'm still considering this.
From what i read in your post, you mentioned porting out the inlet/ outlet of the compressor housing to fit the larger comp. wheel. Even though boring it out would imrpove flow, you would still have to machine the housing itself, removing material from it so that the wheel can actually fit underneath. Do you know what I mean?
besides, you will have to replace seals, and have the turbo balanced. This will add to the cost.
I'm pretty sure that the turbine wheel is smaller on the 16g than on the 20g.
But if you have a 14b lying around...:thumb:

Yeah, I could try going to a local machine shop and ask how much they would want for boring it out, or I could try and ask one of the guy where I work at to see if they got some time to bore it out for me, I work in the quality control department of a machine shop, but we don't do machiend parts for cars, its mostly casting and machined brass/aluminum/steel for household/industrial uses, But just maybe one of the guys in the cnc department may be able to do it, I don't know. :talon:

just rebuild the 14b and port it out like crazy, many people are running 12's on the 14b and it would be cheap to, rebuild kits are like $100 at forced performance and vfaq can help show you how to rebuild it, then just take it to a shop that can balance turbos and get it balanced.
