ok been readin up on some searches, mainly related to crankwalk (oh boy here we go again right?)

well ive seen a few posts saying your in the clear with 7bolt after 80k miles if it isnt doing it already....everyone agree with this?

im looking for a race setup, so would that still be in the clear on a 7bolt?

if not should I bolt on the crap out of the 7bolt and run it to death after I build up a 6bolt? so when it dies I can swap it. or just save it incase?

A motor can CW at any time. Its realy your decision. Your motor may not CW and you'll be fine. But your probably safer buying a 6-bolt. Hell you can run 350 on a stock 7bolt healthily.

How much power do you plan on making for your race setup?
if you plan on making 450+ horsepower it would be wise to build up the engine and if your going to do that just drop a 6 bolt into it.

yea definately will be over 450, and from what ive read the more hp you have the greater the walking % seems to become?

might as well throw a 6bolt in there to be safe, doesnt cost that much more, and I dont have to down my car for a weekend and try to install everything with the quickness and get it back up again.

for a 6bolt swap the only thing I really need after the motor is built is a 6bolt flywheel in the tranny right?

stock 7 bolt can take over 450whp.

just leave it.

thanks for the link to the article.

im looking at 600hp as a goal, quite a lot and hard to get to yes, but getting the long term goal has to start from the begiinning, so do you think 7 bolt would hold still (re-doing all the internals and crap, only concern I POSSIBLY have is walking, but from what im hearing only like 7% get it in the worst case)?

and couldnt you get a aftermarket crank? tho it doesnt seem like anyone is sure what causes it, some guess imbalance, some guess something with the oil....

looks like i got a lot of homework to do first.

I pondered this question about 3 months ago. I have less hp goals than you but i have decided to run the 7 bolt until it blows then do the swap. If you goals are 600+ hp you are going to have to build your engine up to get that much hp anyway. If you are wanting to go from 200 to 600 all at once i would definately suggest the 6 bolt. And check out www.magnusmotorsports.com for good instruction on the swap. There is a lot more involved than you think.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Just rolled 130,000 miles on my stock 7 bolt and its in specs for endplay. I've decided to invest my money in worthwhile parts instead of building up a 6 bolt in fear of something that isn't going to happen. When it dies, yes a 6 bolt will go in. Until then, its boost and tuning. :thumb:
