I plan on building the car up slowly...50 trim maxes out at 450, so I want to plan for 450hp just for safety reasons (I'll prolly run for 350-400 @ 22psi at the end of it all).
a: Pistons? I am thinking of sticking with my 95 pistons.
b: Rods? 1G big rods seem to be the choice. What year or part # are 1G big rods? Or are all 1G rods big rods as compared to 2G's? (are N/T rods big rods too?)
c: Headgasket? No idea here. Just know I am gonna order ARP's. (can I use 1G ARP's on my 2G head...I eventually will put my 1G head on so I dont wanna waste $)
d: Cams 264/272 of course.
Thanks guys.

Good idea.

1g rods are from 90-92.5. 4g63 NA rods are the same as the turbo rods.

Mitsu OEM composite. The head reciever holes are different sizes in the 1g head vs the 2g. So you cannot just buy a 2g set of ARP's and use for both heads.

[d: Cams 264/272 of course.
Why of course? You should really pick a cam that best suits your particular engines need, not a cam combination that is the flavor of the month.

Good luck

Goddam thanks.
Ok, how can I tell 1G Big rods except by date? Anyone got a pic. (to the junkyard I go...or should I buy new??)
Cams...Good idle and topend, smooth power curve, HKS is tested and true.

There is no way to mistake a 1g rod for a 2g rod. The size difference is quite noticeable. Any stock 6 bolt motor you find will contain 1g rods. You will need to have ANY used part tested by your machinst.

I'm not saying not to use HKS cams. What I am saying is that depending on what other mods you are doing there could be better options on cam choices.

Crower and Comp Cams makes camshafts for DSMs also. HKS is definitely proven and that is a good point.

Comp Cams set is about 470$.

Crower is about 500$ a set.

I'll take a look at those other comp cams, crower has been on my mind as well too.

As far as the head goes I am just going to put in 1mm over SS valves and be done with it (valve job of course). Any other suggestions for internals? Rent a hone? New piston rings are probably a good idea.

Maybe I didn't state this very well.

The HKS 264/272 may not be the best combination for your car. You may want to look at a HKS 264/264 or a HKS 272/272 setup depending on your other mods and your HP goals. The JUN cams are also note worth as well. With any other cam, that I am aware of, you will need to add in the cost of cam gears to be able to properly degree your cams.

If you are not going to do a port job, I would save the money on the 1mm over valves and just go with a stock sized valve with a hi-flow cut stem. You'll see a bigger bang for the buck from this.

Have your machine work done professionally. Spend a little now, save a lot later.

I gotcha about the cams...I was jsut stating that I will check out crowers line to find what fits me best.

Now as far as headstuds go. I am putting a 1G head on....1G and 2g head studs have diff thread sizes, so I will have to buy a 2g ARP kit then, right?

the stock internals in your motor right now will do what you plan to do.

there is no reason to change anything.

I like reliability over hoping.
