How high of a temperature should an egt gauge to to? I have seen many that go up to 1600... are they ok? Also, I found where i can get an autometer ultra-lite 2 1/16 EGT w/ all wiring and a probe shipped to me for 100 bucks. Is this a good deal?

Thats a decent price for sure. Not the fastest probe but you have many other K-type thermocouples to choose from that are quicker.

As far as the 1600* F limit on the Autometer being enough. That temperature is probably about as hot as you should go. Problem I had with my Autometer was that if anything ever out of the ordinary happened, I wouldnt be able to tell how hot things got. Something I personally felt was of importance.

Buy it. I paid $90. great deal. Then go to TRE and get their probe. Very fast acting and only $38! I love it.

Exactly the reason why I'm getting one that goes to 1800. Besides, many people agree that 1650 is the "sweet spot" for max power, but anything much over that and stuff starts melting...
