if you were to rebuild a 1g head ...

Well put in new stainless steel valves..probably stock sizes..not sure about angles and all that.I would put in better springs..crower seem good and come with titanium retainers for a decent price.
New guides of course and seals.

these guys pretty much hit everything that I did when I rebuilt my head. I already had cams, but if you don't have them yet you might want to look into it. I didn't bother doing any porting, but that's just me. The guides on my head were fine, but I would leave that up to the person rebuilding it to determine.

they have larger oil passages, it helps to get rid of all that damn ticking at idle. There's a sticky thread in the parts section at dsmtalk.com that lists a place that sells them really cheap. That's where I got mine from, good stuff!

The stock valvetrain is proven to be good until 8000rpm, beyond that is not really good for it.

Ill be the realist here and say:

Hks 264/272 cam combo
stock valves and springs (new of course)
new seals
new guides
probably a 3 angle valve job
some mild exhaust side porting
resurface the deck
pressure test
new lifters if necessary

thats probably it

you could skip that 3 way angle job as the head comes with that stock.

It doesnt matter if it comes with it stock or not, because this is a rebuild we were talking about here. So getting valve job is a good thing.

By your logic, there would be no need to pressure test or resurface the head either because the head doesnt come with cracks or a warped/scratched surface from the factory.

:D ... Does that mean that you thought about what you said AFTER you finished posting? Must have otherwise you might not have said what you did. :p

*sighs*

all im implying was that while a head may become warped or cracked or what-have-you, the angle job doesnt need to be redone, especially if the bare head is properally cleaned. this is based on my experiences with rebuilding heads.

Actually my head was redone last week, and they did do a 3angle valve job. EVERYTHING was badly worn...Even the valve guides...Valves were like wiggling...
