ok, this is kinda a n00b question but i have been doing research for a couple months to get a nice plan before i mod the hell out of my car, and one thing that has been bugging me is wastegates. I am not quite sure what they do, from what i have seen I need one if i am useing a T3/T4 turbo but do i need one for a 18g or 20g turbo. If so where does it go, the T3/T4 manifold i have seen shows it bolts right on, but i am planing on useing a ported EVO III manifold.

sorry, but i had to laugh. if u didn't know this every turbo has a wastegate. inside or outside they all have them. the reason the t3/t4 manifold just bolts right on is cause it's an external wastegate. an 18g or 20g has an internal wastegate.

Ahhh yes, I read that about 5 months ago, very good... You say your going to be running a evoIII manny, which means youlll be using a garret/mutt/mitsu turbo. If you haven't decided what your goals are, and what turbo you want you should definetly read up. Most 20g owners Ive seen ran an external gate, which is kinda a rule of thumb (20g or larger, then go external).

All a wastegate does is control the amount of boost from the turbo itself. Boost controllers, control the signal to the wastegate to let it know how much to dump.
