Shift box options

I've tried:
  • using ecmlink to control full line pressure
  • a foreign muscle custom chip
  • the road surge box
Buy the ForcedFour.com Shift Box plus or color (I have the color)
Don't even bother with anything else!

John-

I'm interested in this, but I already have a programmed TCU chip.
I just don't like pushing buttons on teh box I'd like to have a ratchet shifter or something.

I used the road. Surge shift box. Easy to install i loved it. High rpm shifts and full line pressure.

I never had it mounted anywhere. I just put in the compartment under the radio when it was off otherwise it would be in my hand when im racing.

Yea I've heard some good things about forcedfour box.

Color is out of stock, but the plus is available!

road surge FTW. ive had mine for about three mounths i love it. super simple to use comes with auto shift feature a x rpm. mine is set at 7000 rpm. also has a down shift protection setting making so you cant down shit above a certain rpm in each gear so you dont break things. also has i digital gear indicator so you dont have to remember what gear your in.. plus only two bottons to use one for upshift one for downshift not a bunch of switches like most other products. another plus is u can switch it off and drive with your normal tcu.

My question is there any delay between hitting the button and the trans shifting? I would like to see these in action.

Delay when shifting like driving stock..NO..The shift boxes have full line pressure.Making shifts very very fast..Which is why you see alot of drag auto cars..Theres ALMOST no way to shift as fast as an auto trans.

There are some folks that have shifting there 5 speeds down to a T.But Electronically shifting, is super super fast..You shift and your in the next gear with an auto..No delay like Clutch in,shift, clutch out,..

Do you just hold it?

I don't like the idea of a box at all, but if I were to get a box, I would at least like it to be mounted somewhere so I don't have to worry about dropping it or setting it down to turn my windshield wipers on or adjust the radio or to hold my beverage while driving.

Has anyone mounted the box somewhere in a 1G? It would be cool if there was a way to have the two buttons built in to the stock gear selector or have the box wired up to paddle shifters.

Well they also have a switch to turn off the box and go back to the stock TCU.

I really like the paddle shifter idea. That's exactly what I would do if I was building an auto setup. It would be super easy if you could start out with a car that came with radio controls in the wheel.

Do you know about the 2g steering wheel shift box paddle shifter mod..Using a 2g steering wheel..The horn buttons are turned into your up and down shifting butons.

no it sits between my shifter and ebrake and i dont hold it, i just press the button. i velcro'ed it right next to my ebrake. you can turn it of with of the switch on the side and drive normal. you can also wire a ratchet shiter to it and replace the stock shifter or set up paddle shiters or use the stering wheel with the nos buttons and use those to shift.

Thanks for the picture. I think I'm going to try to figure out a paddle shifter setup.

How are your downshifts? I was reading another thread and they were saying when they downshifted with the box, it was rough, like it jerked pretty badly.

there are things u have to be careful of. dont down shift into first unless at a stop ive accidentally did at like 5 and was VERY jaring. but other hen that in any other gear dont down shift above 3500rpm to avoid harsh down shift. this is recommended for a stock tranny. this was made for racing not daily driving where the goal is only acceleration not up shifting and down shifting in traffic. i have dd with one becouse tranny wiring harness is mesed up and the stock tcu does not get power. but i still love it and would back this product all the way.

This, and this only, is the only "rule of thumb" you should live by when you have shift Box.

Chirping tires is fun if you have a fwd 5spd..But on an auto awd, chirping tires shifting into first is NOT RECCOMENDED:thumb:

I want to see a video any of these boxes in action, with the camera on the tach.

Better yet, an ECMLink screenshot of a mid 9 second run, shift times are between .20 - .25 seconds.

This is using the ShiftBox Color and a fully built transmission

If you want to shift fast in a strait line get a road surge shift box. If you want the comfort of a smooth stock shiftingduring daily driving, turn the box off and you can have your hands free to hold your bagle and turn your whipers on.

My ShiftBox Color setup includes a fully functional TCU that can be enabled with the flip of a toggle switch.

again - this is 2cents from someone that has installed and tried every one of the mentioned options for an automatic DSM. Go with the ForcedFour ShiftBox.

From what I was reading on the website for forced four, it looks like they have wires that you can use to connect to paddle shifter or buttons mounted on the steering wheel etc. Is that correct? Are the wires located at the end with all the other wires that you have to connect?

The road surge box says there is a headphone type jack that you can wire up remote shifting with.
