So i have a 95 gsx auto of course, always drove a standard though. Anyways my car is just randomly overheating, everything else is fine or replaced or new. But my neighbor asked me how my tranny gets cooled and then i remebered. RADIATOR:notgood: When i do hit the gas around and hit boost and stuff my tranny will perform amazingly but then my temp gauge will go up and then down. My uncle said that my tranny aint made to support any hard runs and that the fluid is probally really really hot and its not getting cooled down in the radiator. He then told me his mercedes sl55 is much better since he has a cooling system for his tranny the size of my radiator. We have a brand new tranny cooler at the shop which seems to come off a truck or some sort, i put the lines up to that tomorrow and see how it goes. But does anyone else have any problems with the tranny fluid getting so hot? Also maybe one of the lines has a clog in it? I took a look and i see some rusted lines under the radiator, even the support beam down there is all rust

I did hear the tranny gets to about 400f after a quarter mile pass? I do speed a lot too soo????

Hmm, I have yet to see my tranny get above 200 degrees. The cheapest thing to do is to go through all of your tranny cooling lines and make sure they dont have buildup in them. My bet is that your tranny cooler (radiator) and whatever else you have up front has buildup in/on it. I just took out my radiator about a month ago and I had a ton of crap on it, it kinda looked like cotton stuck to it which cant be good for cooling. I also got some simple green and let that sit in my radiator for an hour, swishing it around and then using a some water to completely clean the inside of it the best I could.

I would start there, then do a tranny flush, mabye even a new filter if you want to be really nice to your car, christmas is coming up soon not only for you but for your car also... After all that, I would reccomen upgrading to a different setup to cool the tranny down. Heat is the number one killer on auto trannys, so that would be one of the first mods I would do.

I have a tranny cooler where my stock smic went with a spal fan on it, and it does a great job.

yea i was thinking about that, we got a ton of fans that we pulled from hondas etc etc, and i got a nice brand new tranny cooler that was meant for a truck, im gonna rig something up and use a switch to power the fan

thanks

Trace your transmission lines. You either have the cooler in the radiator...OR if you're like me, has it's own separate stock cooler. That would be the first thing to check. Then I would start looking back at the system.
